Forever 21: Moral Issue or Financial Savior?

Posted on 04.29.08 to Designer Feature, Opinion, Polls by Lindsay

So, I rarely feature Forever 21 clothing on my site, because I’m having a bit of an internet, moral struggle. Forever 21 hit the market at the “just-off-the-runway style for bargain prices”, and when they said “bargain”, they really meant bargain.

But, in doing so, they’re literally stealing the designs of other major-label designers. Literally. To the T.

The case you see above? On the left, Philip Lim’s blue frock, Net-a-Porter.com for $595. On the right, Forever 21′s :”Rosette Dress”, $29.90.

How many differences do you see? Not too many, except the price, right?

On the right, Christian Louboutin has once again created something wonderful, red sole included, for $775. On the left, Forever 21 has ripped off his exact design (down to the tab on the zipper pull) in crappy plastic for $21.80.

Hmm.

Left, Phillip Lim, $320. Right, Forever 21, $22.80.

You get it, right?

So what do I do? A Broke & Beautiful fashion addict, diving and dying for the latest bargain… But should I compromise my morals to achieve my favorite designer looks? What do you think?

you know…I respect some top designers…but..it’s really hard for some people to afford such things..I guess…the main point is…if you feel pretty in what your wearing…you know…thats the fun part for me anyway
