From An Expert: Solid Gold

Broke & Beautiful‘s very first guest blogger is makeup artist and fashion addict, Erin Bush of Passion for Pretty! She’s here to fill us all in on the hottest cosmetic trends of the season.

Fall’s most precious metal isn’t found in a H. Stern cuff (even though I am borderline obsessed with the H. Stern Feather Bracelet, is saving it as a background image on my computer too much?), the bling is on our lids! I know the thought of a gilded eye may sound a bit disco-ish but a touch of gold shadow can really make your eyes pop.

From Chanel to Versace, the hue popped on the lids of the models walking in the Milan Fall/Winter fashion shows earlier this year. It can be subtle or diva-like. It can be pretty or mysterious, and more importantly it works on almost every skin tone. Just a simple, light sweep of this shimmery metallic shade updates our look and warms up our faces in seconds!

There are two looks you can do with gold: neutral or a pop of color.

To get the neutral look:
Apply gold shadow to your lids and keep the rest of the face understated so the eyes are the main focus. Use a nude gloss on the lips and keep the cheeks peachy.

To get the DIVALICIOUS pop of color:
Lightly wet your shadow brush before dipping it into the eye shadow. Sweep the color across your lower lid; this will deliver an intense wash of color. Pair it with a heavier liner, mega volume lashes and either a soft gold lip-gloss or a dark red lip. The combination works in harmony to create a sultry, intense look.

Gold works for everyone, the key is to find the gold tone that best fits your skin tone. Nars, Laura Mercier and Chanel (FYI – the gold in Chanel’s collection was inspired by gilded tones found in Coco Chanel’s historic apartment in Paris!) have all launched beautiful makeup collections that are full of golden shimmery goodness.
