The news broke today that Nina Garcia, former fashion editor of Elle Magazine and judge on Project Runway, finally has a new gig.
PR Newswire released today that Ms. Garcia will be hosting another design competition! … Sort of. Which designers will still be racing against the clock, this time, they’ll be designing packaging for super-contraceptive YAZ.
That’s right. Baby pills.
“Whether you are an aspiring designer, graphic artist or simply the
office fashionista with a flair for what’s chic, now is the chance to put
your talent to the test and turn your visions into reality,” says Garcia.
I’m unsure that there’s ever been some fashionable 20-something sitting in her little cubicle when her alarm goes off to take her birth control who immediately looks at the teal, fake-suede packaging and thinks… “Hey. I could do better.”

There would have to be some obligatory, over-exaggerated fist pumping, too.
Needless to say, Nina Garcia finally has a job again. The good news? She’s partnering with Step Up Women’s Network, which is a non-profit dedicated to empowering and educating women. The bad news (er, the next bad news?) That means the contest will be called “YAZ: Step Up and Go Beyond”. *cringe*
At least you have the chance to pocket $10K with this thing. And the winner will be announced and presented to… around Fashion Week 2008! Oh boy! Every office fashionista’s dream is to be known at NYC fashion week for recreating birth control pills, right?
Awesome.

What do I say?
“We’re not gonna take it! No, we ain’t gonna take it!”
