Slushing Needn’t Be Unsightly

I’m not sure why I needed the title of this post to sound to fancy and classy… I’m here to talk about rubber boots – not the classiest member of the footwear world.

Although, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t COMPLETELY necessary. I discovered this quickly after I moved from same-temperature-all-year Seattle (well, usually…) to guess-and-we’ll-tell-you-after Chicago. It’s a lot less likely that you’ll go out and snag your groceries/dry cleaning/coffee/toilet paper if all you have are leather flats, satin heels and Converse Chuck Taylors (which are quite absorbent, if you didn’t know), and this explains the recent rage of all things “rubber boot”.

Fortunately, after a few seasons of practice, shoe companies have discovered that these boots, however necessary, may not be at their most delectable in the colors of rotting wood, puce, and/or logo’d to high hell. Although, if that’s your prerogative, I can’t stop you; all I can do is introduce you to some more aesthetic options.

Firstly, I’m proud to show you my wonderful rain boots:

Men: Hunter Argyll Full Knee - Black

Hunter Argyll Boots
$85

These boots are a DREAM! I chose these over Hunter Original in Black ($115) not only because of the price difference, but because the Argyll boot has wider shafts, and my soccer legs need a little room to breath, naw’mean?

in-the-snow-boots

See? They work! (Also, don’t smoke! It’s unhealthy!)

The Argyll boots are listed as “Men’s Boots”, but I assure you, they’re unisex. It’s even printed on the inside of the boot!

While Hunter makes perfect, 100+ year old boots (since 1890-something!), I understand that $85 chunks of rubber may not be in everyone’s budget. Luckily, the rain boot market understands that, too, and has PLENTY of other options for you to choose from!

NOTE: Many rain boots run large in size, as they expect you to be wearing lovely, squishy, furry, plushy socks with your boots!

Women's shoes: EMU Australia Welly Repeat - White Multi
EMU Australia Welly Repeat in “White Multi” (12″ shaft circumference)
$60 $39.99

These are nice and festive, without being too obnoxious.

Women's shoes: Chooka Peacock City - Emerald
Chooka Peacock City
$60 $29.99

As peacocks are my favorite animal, I had to include these! * All Chooka boots have a 15.5″ circumference in the shaft – soccer chicks, attack!

Women's shoes: Chooka Radiant - Navy/silver
Chooka Radiant (Navy/silver)
$60 $39.99

These are a little futuristic, a little bright, a little flashy… Invader Zim’s girlfriend would wear these. Well, maybe they’d be a little more evil

Women's shoes: Roxy Puddles - Gray argyle
Roxy Puddles in Gray (14″ shaft circumference)
$49.99 $29.99

The next best thing to Hunter Argyll boots… Are actual argyle boots! One of my favorite prints on a cute, understated rain boot – perfect! It’s almost so patterned that you can’t see the gross logo on the side.

Women's shoes: Sperry Top-Sider Pelican Lug Tall Boot - Navy and red with anchors
Sperry Top-Sider Tall Boot in Navy and Red with Anchors
$60 $39.99

C’mon… I had to throw something unbearably kitschy in there! It’s got little anchors on it! For the rain! You’re in puddles with anchors on your boots! HOW CUTE IS THAT?!

Oh, and I’ll have you know that all of these boots are in “Rachel Zoe’s Picks” at Piperlime… Because we totally care what she thinks.

Peace, love, and crappy stylists…

xoxo.
