ECiG: Gina Michele
Posted on 03.23.09 to $150 and under, Independent Designers, Inspiration by Lindsay
From English Lit. grad to super-designer, Gina Michele is well on her way to being well-known, world-’round. She started by chopping up fabric for her Barbie’s clothes, and now spends time dabbling in eco-friendly fabrics, feminine sheaths and deliciously draping in NYC.
I discovered her on Smashing Darling a couple weeks ago, and was stunned by the simple complexity of her pieces. There aren’t loud patterns bounding this way and that; but the shapes, the details, and the fit of these pieces are all you’d really need from a dress in the first place, so the rest of that crap… just doesn’t matter.
My favorite piece starts off the set (you know about my love affair with pockets):
As usual, click to buy. You’ll ne pleased to see that everything is under $120 here, and most of it is eco-friendly with recycled silk pieces.

Those first three are definitely my favorites. The dark blue one is so dramatic!

I ordered from her and paid but she never sent anything, I would say more of a fraud than an up and coming designer.

Wow, I’m really sorry to hear that, Liz! We wrote this two years ago and definitely haven’t heard anything bad until now… I hope things get worked out!
