Maybe it’s another case of “Miss Elle Falls Into a Trend”… But I’ve returned to the mid-nineties and reaquainted myself with my previous love of plaids. Don’t get me wrong – I understand the many faux pas that plaids are involved in, and I humbly admit that plaid can do wrong.
Although, there is an incarnation of plaid that I can’t get over… Plaids that have been married with ultra feminine silhouettes and cuts to create an easy-yet-ladylike cool when mixed with cozy layers for fall.
The best part about this “trend” is that… well, it’s a trend. So despite the fact that everyone in the world is going to be emulating Eddie Vedder, I can still rest assured that designers will be churning out the ladylike plaid action in full force.
DRESSES

LOVE YAYA Virgin Dress – $59.40 (was $198)
A saucy number! Do you see what I mean about the ladylike aspect of plaid? It just works. Imagine this with a schoolboy blazer over the top, and some converse. Hello – that is how you do 90′s style.

Project E Portofino Plaid Dress in Violet/Khaki – $68 (was $96)
This is one of my favorites. Most of the time, an orange plaid is… kind of out of the question. However, in this beautiful color combination, mixed with the cut and the high-collar effect, it’s perfect.

Only Hearts Plaid Shirttail Dress – $160
The most glamorous lumberjack’s-wife’s-nightgown I’ve ever seen. I imagine this would get a lot of wear with Frye Engineer Boots.

Only Hearts Plaid Shift Dress – $115 (was $230)
See previous comment, however replace the Frye boots with “tights, a skinny belt at the waist, and deep red lips”.

Women: Pleated plaid dress – Sonnet blue – $132
Mmmm, delicious work-appropriate-ness. If there was ever a dress that defined “office-to-happy-hour” – this would be it. Flattering enough for some saucy martini time, but classy enough for the office.
SEPARATES
As much as I’d love to prance about in dresses 24/7 – I love my jeans. These girly incarnations of “manly” plaid give off a slightly ironic sex appeal.

Sunner Park Top – $98.70 (was $141)
So what looks good in halter form with a high collar? Look, we’re learning! This is such an easy piece… but it’s so interesting, you barely need any other accessories!

Rojas – Womens Racerback Shirt (Square Plaid) – $82
My growing love for 80sPurple knows no bounds. The racerback on this top is gorgeous, and would be stunning on a smaller-chested gal. Man, oh, man. (The pants are debatable.)

Banana Republic Long-sleeve Plaid Ruffle Shirt – $60
You knew it was coming – the closest we can get to a traditional, plaid, flannel shirt… But chic-ified with center ruffles bordering the buttons. EASY. CHIC. What else do I have to say?

Banana Republic Silk Plaid Blouse – $70
Whether it was the actual photo (that girl’s expression is stunning) or the soft, blurred plaid pattern on this beautiful, shiny silk – I’m unsure. Either way, I gasped when I came across this piece. So beautiful.

XOXO Plaid Rouched Button Front Shirt – $44
This top is adorable! I would rock this with skirts, jeans, cut-offs… Anything I could get my hands on. This is the epitome of what I love about this plaid “trend”.
So what’s the verdict? Do you love this plaid, femininity thing? Or are you still stunk on its “heroin chic” appeal from 15 years ago?

End Of August Fashion Link Love : Style It Less - How to Look Stylish on a Budget – Dress for Less added these pithy words on Aug 31 09 at 7:26 pmI’m DEFINITELY feeling the plaid revival, too – on the right piece, it can just look amazing +!
You’mean about designers keeping the trend coming, I think there are so many different styles of plaid that it’ll never really die out. I just wrote an article about how to style plaid so that it doesn’t look too tired… glad to see someone else is on the same page!

Oh my gosh, I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately, but I’ve totally fallen for the plaids and checks. A few years ago, I would have scoffed, and pointed to my bearded, hiking-boot-wearing, flanneled anthro profs. Now…oh I love. And I’ve been able to find the trend in plus sizes, too! Yippee!
