I’m Wearing: Nonsensical Cook-wear
Posted on 02.05.09 to Outfits by LindsayAs a result of my now three-month-old move to Chicago, I have neighbors (something I didn’t really have in Seattle). Neighbors who I haven’t met and really know nothing about. Thusly, I’ve only been taking outfit photos in my tiny, messy, furniture-less apartment instead of our gorgeous, mirrored lobby or our neat, dilapidated stairwell. The last thing I need to do is meet my neighbors in my most self-absorbed moment.
Therefore, everything I wear that isn’t related to some kind of housework or cooking project seems… awkward and out of place – hence the title of this post.
One of these days, I’ll just have to bite the bullet and drag my tripod into the stairwell and get some actually decent photos, but until then, you can marvel at the tininess of our kitchen, and our pretty hardwood floors.

I’ve been wanting to bust out my new William Rast Knit Sleeveless Sweater ($158) that I got a few weeks ago. It’s the most beautiful grey color, and so, so soft… But this is, unfortunately, the only way I can wear it: high-waisted pencil skirt with a cami underneath. Why? Because William Rast doesn’t design for chicks with boobs (surprise!). In fact, the main photo of this on the website is styled completely different from the way that I’m wearing it, as a result of the less-boobs on the model:
There’s a small button that allows you to close the ruffles for more of a tuxedo-esque look, but my rack wasn’t having any of that. I think I like it open better, anyway. Despite that, I still love the top. It’s 100% cotton (yay, natural fibers!) and, as I said, extremely soft. I can tell just from wearing it that it’s really well made, and that the ruffles won’t either fall off or lose their shape after a few wears (*cough* Forever 21, are you listening?). I guess you get what you pay for!

I’m also wearing one of my FAVORITE Marshall’s finds: my black, high-waisted pencil skirt. It’s got two rows of buttons down the front for a semi-nautical feel (which I LOVE with the girliness of the top). I’m thinking about changing out the fabric-covered buttons for something a little more… spunky. Any ideas?

And lastly, another Marshall’s snag – my Steve Madden silver gladiator-y pumps. The heel is sky-high, but they manage to be comfortable, anyway. It was either this pewter python pattern, or patent black leather… It was a really, really hard decision, but I forced myself to get the pewter because I have plenty of black shoes, and really don’t need anymore.
Looking a little possessed – sorry about that!
You may have noticed that I chopped off all my hair. =) I donated 9 inches of hair to Locks of Love via the amazing Sergio at Sine Non Qua Salon in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. The best part? It was totally free. Even the styling (where they only used *swoonworthy* Bumble & Bumble products) didn’t cost me a penny… All because of Salon Apprentice, a site for Chicagoans and New Yorkers who want to give a almost-done-with-training apprentice a little more practice before they finish their studies. Sergio was totally professional, and did an AMAZING job giving me a graduated bob. If you’re still nervous about the idea, don’t worry – there’s an instructor supervising the entire process.
William Rast Knit Sleeveless Sweater, $158
Ninety Pencil Skirt, Marshalls, $7.99
Steve Madden Pewter Gladiator Pumps, Marshalls, $39.99
Lace Trim Cami, Old Navy, $5
Ta-da!
xoxo.

Always alarming when you order a garment and find it’s constructed for someone with a different body type … SO glad the sweater worked out regardless! I think it looks smashing, as does your adorable new ‘do.

Darn you Justin for not appreciating the rack!
I actually like to dress completely awkward for household chores. Like when my parents send me to the grocery store knowing I can barely find the dairy aisle, I dress completely out of the norm. I’ll wear a dress and super high heels so I feel like so Stepford or something…haha!
