When it comes to winter, I seem to find less and less reason to get gussied up to go out. Perhaps it’s the cold, perhaps it’s the fact that I know I’ll rarely ever get to take off my jacket, or maybe I have SAD.
Whatever, it’s the first two. Winter is beautiful, and I adore it. But now that I’ve moved to a city that actually has winters (sorry, perpetually 40-50°F Seattle) I’m finding that the cold is actually… kind of annoying.
My outfits lately have been completely uninspiring. Jeans + something to cover the top of me + converse/Hunter boots + black trench with black zip-up hoodie underneath it. I want to start posting outfit pictures, but a) the majority of my clothes are in boxes in my Mom’s garage (the train has this silly weight limit) and I can’t afford to ship them over, and b) I’m dressing totally lame.
I need more tops that are intersting enough to go with jeans and warm things… More sophisticated than a simple turtleneck, but less fancy than a statement top.
I think something that’s just intricate enough to catch an eye and suffice my need for creative design will do the trick.
Bailey 44 ‘Fan’ Top
$112 $67
Oooh, coverage + jersey + nipped in waist? Definitely droolworthy. Bonus for coverage of upper arms! This could look perfect with a medium-chunk necklace and some silver bracelets over jeans with boots. Classic.

Shop Around The Corner Top
$34.99
I like this because it’s really girly. I own literally NOTHING pink (Except a croc. clutch), and nothing shiny. I envision this as versatile enough to be untied and a couple buttons undone, or totally fastened for a more prim look. The pleating at the yoke makes it unique enough to move past “run of the mill victorian-style”.

The Empress Tunic
$64.99 $48.74
This is just a purely aesthetic feast. Wonderful colorblocking and pleats are countered by an ultra-casual drawstring around the bottom. Man, I wish I owned this!
Embroidered Chiffon Top
$27.99
The first time I saw this piece, I kind of recoiled a little bit in disgust. The embroidery? So grandma! The fabric looks TOTALLY weird and papery, and what’s up with the collar? But then, after imagining it on MY body (a crucial piece of clothing acquisition), I started to instantly love it. The embroidery is the same color as the fabric, so it mainly adds sheen and interest to the sleeves. The fabric is a silk-cotton blend, so it HAS to be comfortable, and the collar is unique! I’m in love.
Revolver ‘Audrey’ Batwing Top
$79 $31.99
“Ewww, batwing?!” I know, right? Typically batwing tops are a really great way to make your boobs look misshapen and wide, but this particular top looks a bit more well-constructed than the other ones I’ve seen, meaning the batwing shape actually starts on the SIDE, not the front like rack-hating versions typically do. I’d love to throw a bright teal camisole beneath this. Maybe one with lace trim at the bottom, so it peeks out only a little bit and accentuates the waist. Plus, it’s 100% modal, how deliciously comfy.
xoxo.

Ack I totally know what you mean. I’ve been living in cardigans, jeans, and my tall flat-heeled black leather boots lately. I try not to be a lame winter dresser by switching up my scarf, toque, and winter coat. Lately I’ve been more experimental with makeup (bright blue eyeliner, anyone?) to make up for the lameness of my wardrobe.

I love the first two.
I get lazy in summer – it’s so hot that style gets thrown out the window in favour of things that are light and made of next to nothing in my futile attempts to stay cool.

I love that first shirt…but it’s grey, so of COURSE I love it. Ha.

The tie-neck blouse is my fave – girly, pretty, versatile. It’ll be a great layering piece for now, and then stand on its own come spring!
