Coat: I am a huge advocate of splurging on an amazingly luxe coat. Winter is like 8 months long in Chicago, so it's worth the investment. My coat has silver lining, velvet, and decorative trim (oh my!). 3. Pumps: I second whoever mentioned Nine West. I have a pair of simple brown mary jane pumps that are comfortable, yet I always get compliments on them. They have lasted over a year so far and I think they will last much longer. 6. These boots don't have any particular lining (e.g. sheepskin or fleece), but they are seriously waterproof. That and the wind-stopping powers of leather boots take you a long way toward warm without looking like a sorority girl or the michelin man.
