Flight Of Not So Fancy
Posted on 06.30.10 to $100 and under, Inspiration by LindsayI don’t pay a lot of attention to celebrity style, honestly.
I find it to be somewhat contrived, and half of them don’t even pick their own clothes. Why would I care about what some highly paid, brand-endorsed stylist wants me to buy? I don’t. Therefore, celebrity style can suck it.
That being said, there is one aspect of celebrity style that falls into the “guilty pleasure” sect for me: airport style. I’m dead serious. I love seeing what these crazy rich brats wear to the airport. PS, while I’m on the subject, I completely do not even want to talk about how Lady Gaga fell on her face at the airport in those Noritaka Tatehana shoes. I cannot believe how much coverage that is getting…

I love airport style because it’s the most realistic depiction of my own style, I think. I like to call it “extremely comfortable and doesn’t look like crap.” I know, very classy. Most of the things I see them in look very lush, and cozy… And adding my penchant for immense heels usually doesn’t upset the cohesion of the overall look. Seriously! Subtract flats or flip flops, add 4″ heels = go out.

Most celebrities wear things to the airport that I would consider wearing… pretty much anywhere. It’s funny when they act all embarrassed or upset that “OMG someone is photographic them AT THEIR WORST! THE AIRPORT!” when they show up in ensembles like this:

…which is pretty much gorgeous.
Being that we are getting close to my “LEAVING CHICAGO GOING HOME” date of August 1st, I suppose it makes sense that I’m travel-focused. I’ve already been thinking about what I want to wear – not because I’m high maintenance and have nothing better to do, but instead because I have to pack up my entire life and ship it home before I go.
I’m thinking about something a little bit like this…

Lauren Conrad Top $37.20
I couldn’t believe this was Lauren Conrad. Why? It’s not boring as hell. Yeah, I said it.

American Eagle Straight Jeans $39.50

Someone can just feel free to buy those boots for me. Just puttin’ that out there.

AH! I am also secretly obsessed with celebrity airport style. Not only because it is the closest to resembling my personal style [though it is] but because I am constantly amazed by people who look good while traveling. Lets just say its a life long dream of mine to master that casual, yet classy look. Loved this post. xo.

As much as I admire SJP’s outfit above, the hat doesn’t exactly translate to how ordinary people fly in coach. In business/first class, you probably have extra room to set your hat down so you can recline fully and not worry about having it squished. In coach, you’re lucky if your knees don’t bang into the seat in front of you, let alone finding a place to put your hat. Great style statement, just not for airports.

SJP looks amazing. I don’t care if it’s not like something I’d wear in real life. I don’t get rushed by paparazzi in real life either ![]()

Lisa: I know what you mean. It’s not exactly comfortable plane-wear (unless you have, you know, your own private jet). But like I said, I love the celebrity (keyword: celebrity, haha) airport style for every day. It’s not overthought, and it’s reeeasonably comfortable, haha. I’d KILL for those Proenza Schouler shoes, though!
