Posted on 06.18.10 to Shoe Porn by LindsayI’ve never really been sure what the deal was with “No White After Labor Day”, but I’ve never really worn white, so I didn’t really care.
Aside from leaving my crisp linen suits in the not-my closet, I’ve always thought the idea of white footwear was kind of disturbing. Admittedly, I own some… Which I’m getting rid of (impulse buy – they were $7 and I was in my whedgle phase), and I’ve always kind of viewed white shoes as kind of a wasp-y accessory choice. Seemingly pretentious, ultra-preppy, and very “Let’s use the word luncheon outside of charity events.”
On a yet-to-be-related note, I’ve been falling in love with Tumblr lately. As a super visual, image-craving person, Tumblr is like a big ol’ mental stream of pretty things, and what’s life is not a stream of pretty things, right? (Don’t answer that, I realize it’s ridiculous, but it’s convenient for my story.) So I’ve been looking for more Tumblrs to follow lately, including apartment design tumblrs (if you know of any, please let me know), and today, a Tumblr was recommended to me in the sidebar of my dashboard called “HighOnHeels.” If you are reading this blog and wouldn’t click that link, I believe you have stumbled upon my humble abode by mistake.
So naturally, I follow them, and the first photo I see…

They’re white. And they’re tall. And I really, really like them. Particularly the left/middle pair… What is going on? These aren’t wasp-y – I mean, kind of, but not nearly in the way that I previously imagined white shoes. I would wear these, I really would.
So now I’m curious as to whether or not there are other white shoes that I would wear. I’m not talking about taupe, off-white, or silver… But stark-ass white shoes.

DO YOU SEE HOW AMAZING THESE ARE? I love them. They are kind of tacky, and a little bit… strange, but I need them.

Looks like, just like most etiquette customs, it was created to keep the nouveau riche separated from the real upper class.
Love those L.A.M.B. shoes, though I don’t think I have the white wardrobe to pull them off! Do they come in black/grey/brown/blue?

Amandalee: I guess I’m not surprised about the whole “white labor day” thing… So many stupid rules in the class system!
The L.A.M.B. shoes do come in black, and they’re totally gorgeous!

I can’t believe that last pair are only $35! I need them. I too have avoided white shoes…completely, but maybe when I get a tan I might indulge :-s
