Dream Outfit: Iced Wine

For I don’t know how long, I’ve been missing out on White House, Black Market.

Lindsay and I saw an ad for WHBM while flipping through the latest In Style, and she filled me in on the details: WHBM began as The White House, a single Baltimore boutique that sold clothing in only two colors: white and ivory. This first store grew, and ten years later they opened Black Market. (Guess what color that boutique catered to?) Now WHBM has over 300 boutiques, but their focus is still the same: using classic colors and styles to make women feel beautiful, no matter the trend or season.

White House Black Market’s regular prices are more than fair, but Lindsay and I went straight to the sale section (of course). I was so inspired by the idea of using only one or two colors in an entire outfit that I came up with not one, but two “dream outfits” for this week.

The hints of pale pink in the stone and leather bracelet ($44 $34.99) almost imbue the batwing top ($78 $49.99) with the same shade, but all of the elements in this outfit come back to cool greys and silvers. I love the versatility of the stretch velvet jeans ($88 $29.98), and Lindsay and I are both swooning over those shimmer wedges ($88 $29.98).

Golden, baby! I’ve enjoyed using metallics as neutrals for the past six months or so, and I think it’ll be just as fun to play with them in colder months as it has been over summer. For me, the jacquard sheath dress ($158.00 $79.98) takes a back seat to each shade of gold in this outfit (even though its texture is awesome and the cut is totally classic). The charm necklace ($98 $34.99) hangs beautifully – I think it would almost sparkle against the collarbones – and the shoes. The shoes. They’re supposedly croc-embossed ($98 $39.98), but I like to think they’re giraffe-inspired. For me, the belt ($44 $29.99) ties everything together. (Also, I’m a belt whore, as you all know. I want to belt everything. Forever.)

Do you ever wear the same hue all over, with only a few other colors (or just one!) as accents?
