Peer Pressure: Tuxedo Pants

Formal attire as casual attire is one of my ultimate favorite styles. It’s kind of a combination of an “eff you” to convention and a little bit of class… something different, you know? Coloring outside the lines as far as style goes (and what’s more fun than that?).

Over the last few months, I’ve been developing an amazing affinity for tuxedo pants. Not necessarily the typical black-with-satin-side-stripe, but instead any pants with a contrasting stripe down the side. I love this look especially if the pants would otherwise be very casual without the embellishment.

A few weeks (months?) ago, I saw one of my favorite style bloggers, Keiko Lynn, in a fabulous pair of tuxedo style pants.

I loved these, and was surprised to find out they were from the Jessica Simpson collection! I can’t find them now, which is devastating, but that hasn’t stopped me from seeking out what I can find (& afford)!

VS Siren Jegging | $79.50

These are a little more glam-rock that I was initially looking for, but after staring at them for a while, I think they’re growing on me…

Sandro Navy Trousers with Leather Stripe | $285 (errr…)

These are so obviously out of my (and probably your) price range, but I am in love with them!! They may be inspiring me to bust out a DIY.

NY&Co 7th Ave Cropped Tuxedo Pants | $59.95

Nicely in my price range. I can’t see the stripe detail very well in this picture, but I trust that it’s there.

TopShop Panelled Cigarette Pant | $60

These have a nice, wide stripe down the side. Mmmm, faux leather… (If you’d rather have this style in legging-form, here you go!)

ASOS Check Panelled Skinny Jeans | $64.03

I love these so much! They’re a little retro, and a little classy. The checked pattern reminds me of an olddiner! A perfect combo with the classiness of the tux stripe.

If you want to search for your own…

I didn’t have a lot of luck with searching just for tuxedo pants. It turned up a lot of rental places and costume shops. Not… exactly… what I’m looking for. I found success in searching for:

  • side stripe pants
  • paneled/panelled pants
  • stripe denim
  • panel pants

(Of course you can interchange “pants” for “leggings” for different/better results!)

What do you think of these contrary tuxedo pants?

Probably watching Netflix.
