Attention: A not-so-basic basic is ahead! (Not an offbeat basic, but a not-so-basic basic. They’re different. Actually – nevermind, I don’t have time to slash don’t know how to explain it right now.) I found this BCBGeneration dress with sheer mesh panels on mega-sale on Amazon, and couldn’t believe it was available in all sizes!

BCBGeneration Sheer Panel Dress

It a super casual heather grey, but the mesh panels make it more formal and somehow even more sporty. Fashion magic. I love the shape of this, not only because it’s very flattering and easy to wear, but also because it lends itself well to wearing sweaters of the top, or crop tops in winter.

Plus, I have always been a little scared of cutouts around my waistline, but these skinny mesh panels are “cutouts” that I think I’d be comfortable wearing. They go right around the ribcage, which is generally a pretty comfortable area for me – especially if an excellent, supportive bra is involved (which it had better be).

This dress would be easy to wear a cardigan or jacket over, if you wanted more coverage. It’s a nice blank slate dress that you can kind of decorate with your other clothes and accessories! I guess that’s kind of the definition of a basic, isn’t it?
