Morphe has a lot of makeup brushes. So many brushes that even the brushes you are familiar with start to look foreign. Did you have any idea that there were so many types of concealer brushes? Well, you probably don’t need all of them… so which do you choose?! Long story short, it’s intimidating. Recently, Morphe overhauled their website and branding (for a big next step – more on that later!) and it makes the brushes a little bit easier to navigate, but there’s still a billion of them, and knowing which ones to pick feels like a test of will from Indiana Jones. Must… choose…wisely!
MorpheMe offers you 3-8 Morphe brushes per month for a flat $19.99/month, and you never have to make any hard decisions. Knowing you’ll get about $30 worth of brushes in exchange makes that gamble a lot less risky.
Par for the subscription box course, MorpheMe offers a price cut with upfront payment. I’m one of those idiots with commitment issues that would rather lose $120 than shell out $240 for a year’s worth of makeup brushes, but that’s just me. An idiot.
LiveGlam, the purveyor of the MorpheMe Brush Club, sent me their October 2017 Brush Club box. Having never used a single Morphe brush in my life, I was nervous. With all of the mixed reviews of Morphe, from scorched earth to stellar, I had no idea what to expect. Luckily, when the package arrived from MorpheMe, it was a pleasant surprise from start to finish.
The brushes came in a completely branded package. A fresh logo printed on a sleek, semi-matte black mailer. Inside, the brushes were in factory-sealed packaging alongside an info card which included a coupon code for 10% off at Morphe Brushes: PINKTOBER in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Coupon codes for Morphe aren’t exactly hard to find, but this one is free of an influencer affiliate, if that’s important to you.
Now about those makeup brushes…
I received a 5-piece set of exclusive Morphe makeup brushes – kind of an “essentials” set. Each one has a bright, Pepto-pink handle with a copper-y ferrule and cream-colored bristles. You can’t find this bristle/handle/ferrule combination anywhere but MorpheMe Brush Club.
Unfortunately, whether these are cruelty-free brushes or not is unknown, for sure. Morphe has generic copies of some brushes on their website, though, and they’re all made with goat hair. Suffice to say, I’d assume they are not cruelty-free or vegan. They are, however, very soft and feel sturdy.
As I mentioned, nearly all of the brushes have a non-BCA, un-pink counterpart on the Morphe site. If you watch a lot of YouTube beauty gurus, you’ve undoubtedly heard people cite Morphe brushes by the coded on the handle. That’s not only a really good marketing tactic, but it’s also a great way to identify brushes. After all, to plebes like me, 80% of makeup brushes look pretty much the same.

These brushes went through a good wash as soon as they arrived. Admittedly, they had a strong scent right out of the package, but it dissipated over a little while. Nevertheless, I didn’t use them until they got very, very washed. To my delight, not a single bristle fell off of those brushes, and everyone’s ferrule is securely in place. After a wash, they’re equally (if not a little more) soft as they were when they got here.
About that Breast Cancer Awareness… I wasn’t able to see any indication that Morphe or LiveGlam were donating anything. They seemed to be more focused on the “awareness” portion of the movement. It’s an important undertaking, don’t get me wrong, but some people might find it misleading. Obviously, I don’t mind anything that draws attention to breast cancer research and the need for funding, so I’m happy to have them.
Back in 2013, however, Morphe ran a campaign where proceeds of a similar pink brush line were donated to breast cancer research organizations. Morphe’s no stranger to philanthropic efforts! They gave $100,000 to American Red Cross during Hurricane Harvey just this last August. And before you go there, the brushes from 2013 have a different ferrule than these brushes, so they’re not leftovers or anything. This is a brand new collection exclusive to MorpheMe.
