In the wake of Kendall Jenner’s disastrous, tone-deaf Pepsi commercial, you may not have heard what her older sister, Kim, has been up to. It will come as a relief to learn that she hasn’t been the subject of yet another public relations disaster. Instead, she’s been given the honour of being Pat McGrath’s latest muse.

The legendary British makeup artist and MBE revealed her latest muse on Instagram on April 4. The announcement paid homage to Snow White, and the IG video played the iconic dialogue between Grimhilde, the evil queen, and her Magic Mirror. When asked who is the fairest of them all, the Magic Mirror responds with the famous line, “A lovely maid I see. She is more fair than thee.” Then Kim is revealed, sporting an intense look in support of the Dark Star 006 eye kit.

Dramatic. Mysterious. Intriguing. Whatever you want to call it, it worked, and we can’t help but love McGrath for calling out our recent obsession with all things Disney. With Beauty and the Beast as box office gold right now, the big reveal fits the times perfectly.

But more than the Disney revival, these two women and their careers are hotter than ever. Vogue Magazine calls Pat McGrath the most influential makeup artist in the world for her work on and off the catwalk, and her makeup kits are some of the most sought-after products. Kim, in the meantime, is no stranger to being the face of makeup brands. Together with her personal makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, she practically invented contouring, and she’s led several lines, including her own Kardashian Beauty.

So you wouldn’t be alone if this teaser (and full video in all of its glory) inspires you to get the Kim Kardashian look. As of April 11, Dark Star 006 in Dark Matter, Ultrasuede Brown, and Ultraviolent Blue will be available through PAT McGRATH LABS and Sephora. Though at $175 each these eyeshadow kits could be more than you were hoping to spend.

Luckily Dedivanovic’s masterclasses have given us a sneak peek into Kim K’s makeup bag, and we’ve found alternatives that put a little less strain on your bank account. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pro Palette isn’t as fab a look as Dark Star, but its $88 price tag is much more economical and offers everyday looks appropriate for the office. The Charlotte Tilbury eye shadow palettes in Golden Goddess, Vintage Vamp, or Dolce Vita offer just four colors, but at $52 it’s an even easier purchase to justify.

Kim is the queen of contouring, so we’d be remiss to skip over her foundation game. MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage System Concealer Palette, and Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Loose Powder are just some of the ways Kim achieves her signature look, but please, for the love of god, be careful choosing your tints and products. Contouring isn’t a one-style-fits-all approach to makeup. It’s all about enhancing your natural features with the right tone and texture for your face.

Probably watching Netflix.
