Every season, Wet N Wild presents us with a highly creative, imaginative collection of affordable, drugstore makeup – usually with a theme that gives us exactly what we’re craving at the time, whether it’s mermaids, summer goth vibes, or some other fantasy. For Summer 2018, Wet N Wild has teamed up with the Los Angeles chapter of the National Audobon Society to create the Flights of Fancy collection which is inspired by the dwindling population of California of hummingbirds.

This collection’s focus on nature is a welcome departure from the more uber-trendy subjects of past releases. The packaging alone is worth the price that Wet N Wild typically asks. The caps of lip products and the collector’s box feature a graphic black and white, irregular chevron pattern with beautiful botanical drawings of Birds of Paradise flowers. Fluttering around are the hummingbirds that started it all.

The species that this box will directly benefit is the Allen’s hummingbird, which is native – and climate-endangered – in California. That’s how Wet N Wild ended up with the host of their launch party: the famous endangered species activist, Mr. Spencer Pratt. I’m not trolling you. Read about it. He gives many shits about saving these birds, and so should we.

The National Audubon Society is an organization that has been protecting birds around the world for over a century. A portion of the proceeds from the Flights of Fancy Limited Edition Collection Box ($34.99)will be donated to help preserve the habitat of the Allen’s hummingbird. People who buy the collector’s box will also get a cute, limited edition pin featuring the lil guy!

Everything at Wet N Wild is always cruelty-free, and most of this collection is actually vegan, as well!

What’s Included in the Wet N Wild Flight of Fancy Collection

There are a total of 24 different pieces in this Flight of Fancy collection, and each piece has distinctive packaging with graphic black and white chevrons and Bird of Paradise flowers to set it apart from the rest of Wet N Wild’s products.

Limited Edition Summer Nail Polish Set of 6, $9.99

This is an unusual addition to a Wet N Wild seasonal collection. Six nail polish colors are included, and can be bought only as a set. Luckily, that set is less than $10, and these colors are really beautiful. I grew up on Wet N Wild nail polish colors because they were the only brand that put out blues and greens. Now, those “wild” colors are a staple of their brand, and have been formulated to give you that tropical summer vibe that this collection represents.

Wet N Wild Photo Focus Primer Water, $4.99

I’ve never used a spray primer, but I have used Wet N Wild’s setting spray, and if it’s any indication of their face-prepping abilities, this stuff should be pretty good. It’s also fragrance-free for those of you who fear terrible-smelling spray products (I am among you).

Wet N Wild Pro Line Blush Brush, $7.99

A metallic purple blush brush might be a little random, sure, but a welcome addition to any collection! Wet N Wild actually has really great makeup brushes, but I haven’t tried the Wet N Wild Pro Line products. The cheaper line is definitely worth the cash, and for $8, I hope that this one is, too.

Wet N Wild Perfect Pout Lip Scrub (2), $3.99

Yum! The best part about lip scrubs is that brands go a long way to make sure they taste awesome. I need to use lip scrubs more. I always forget they exist until I want to wear a liquid lipstick… then it becomes really apparent that I need to exfoliate my lips. In case you couldn’t tell, there’s a watermelon flavor and an orange flavor.

Wet N Wild Color Icon Baked Blush (3), $4.99

These three blushes are pigmented and have a light shimmer to them, so matte blush lovers – you’ve been warned! Personally, I am tempted. These are such electric, bright colors that I could see using them over bare skin in the summer – especially that middle one, Hummingbird Hype!

Wet N Wild Color Icon Lip Gloss (5), $3.99

The packaging really stands out when you get to the lip glosses. Not only are the colors kind of exactly what you want out of a lip gloss selection, but with the caps being as beautiful as they are (and including a second bird and flower motif), these would be cute just sitting in my drawer. It’s nice to see Wet N Wild shake up their packaging a little bit, you know? And again, I think I’m going through an orange phase because that middle shade, Pout of Paradise, is calling to me.

Wet N Wild MegaLiner Liquid Eyeliner (3), $2.99

As per usual, there are liquid eyeliners included – two are matte, and one is metallic. The metallic is the gold on the far left, while the baby pink and green are matte liners. If you haven’t tried the Wet N Wild liquid eyeliners, prepare for a treat. They’re so incredibly cheap, but the lasting power is real and the application is way easier than many other pens and brush liners out there. Honestly, all three of these shades belong in my collection. Where else are you going to find a baby pink, matte, liquid eyeliner?! And the gold could be used in all kinds of fun ways. My heart, though, aches for that green eyeliner. Yes, please!

Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Quad (3), $2.99

There is a whole lotta shimmer going on in these eyeshadow quads, but that seems to be kind of a running theme throughout this collection. Although, there are many YouTube beauty gurus who would shudder at the idea of putting a shimmer shadow in the crease, I’m open to hearing Wet N Wild’s side of the story. I also can’t help but notice that the two palettes on the right could be combined to form a shimmery Modern Renaissance situation… Hmm…

Overall, I think that this collection is awesome, but I’m not sure how much of that is inspired by the packaging that I am clearly having a love affair with. Of everything, the most exciting products are the primer spray and that gorgeous green eyeliner. What are your favorites?
