La Petite Mort: Slip Into Something More Comfortable…

La Petite Mort is a performance artist located in Seattle, WA.  With a flare for the dramatic, a saucy approach to fashion (in the rare moment she’s wearing any), and a serious love for the rush of a good steal, she is the Queen of Gore, and the Broke-Ass Babe that will add a little imagination to your day, and leave you feeling uncomfortable in all the best ways.

New obsession: Nighties.

From outward appearances it would seem I lead a glamorous life.  In reality, probably just like you, I throw on yoga pants and a t-shirt the minute I get home. I made a late New Year’s resolution. I need to stop doing this. I should add a little opulence to my life. I decided to start small with simply sleeping in nighties, preferably silk.

Sound expensive? I raided my local Value Village and walked away with 5 silk vintage nighties for a whopping $40. Last night, possibly for the first time ever, I slept in silk. It was kind of amazing.

You should try it. Start small, maybe weekends. Just do a little something for you.

I have a strange obsession with anything romper like.

(Left: Crochet Lace Deep-V Romper, $48; Right: Mary Green Nouveau Retro Teddy, $48)

I would potentially give up a non-essential organ for this amazing silk romper by Faire Frou Frou ($154).

Lately I’ve been loving things that are well, beyond vintage and have only what I can describe as an “old timey”, romantic feel. (Left: Pinehurst Lingerie Cream Slip with Chiffon & Lace Trim from Blackbird Antiques NC, $14; Right: Daydreamers Frilly Negligee by Emma Highfield, $58.46.)

There’s No Such Thing As Summer aka Here Are Some Cool Sweaters That I Like.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from experiencing the seasons of the Pacific Northwest for close to 30 years, it’s this: seasons mean nothing. Seasons are like saying “Hey! The weather may do something today that it didn’t do yesterday!” which makes me feel like there are likely 365 seasons per year in the PacNW, and most of them look like this:

High of 59°F, low of 55°. Overcast with occasional sun breaks. Chances of rain, sun, and/or wind.

Pretty predictable, but at the same time, completely unpredictable.  However, Seattle isn’t new to the game – we’ve learned that there is one core element of a Pacific Northwest wardrobe, and that element is: sweaters.

So many sweaters, I have.  There is not a season when I could not comfortably wear a sweater on pretty much any given day (save for our annual Actual Summer Week in August, where the temperature will hit such summer-esque heights as 99°, 85°, and 107°! That goodness it only lasts for 7 days, on average.).  Therefore, I – and many others, I’m sure – have some serious sweater elitism.  I know what I like, I know what I don’t like, and I know what makes me look like an eskimo (not that there’s anything wrong with eskimos, I just don’t need 5″ of yarn between me and nature’s elements, ok?).

Why am I posting this now, at the dawn of spring? Because I feel like it.  And also because this is the first season of the year that anyone will actually see what you’re wearing underneath your wool coat, 2 scarves, and windbreaker-lined-with-heating-pads, so now we have to give a crap what we look like under there.

Monday Wedgie: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Tall

We were due for a good, loud, colorful wedge that isn’t necessarily reasonable or logical, but is incredibly budget-friendly.

These couldn’t be more appealing to me.  We’ve been on a yellow binge, and combine that with an espadrille with an ankle strap and you pretty much have me in my weakest spot.  All of the leather is faux, so these are effectively cruelty-free – except for the part where I’m not wearing them.  That’s the cruelest part of all.

Sneakin’: PF Flyers Astor

You can all thank a certain Broke & Beautiful Boyfriend for this find.  I was sent a link to PFFlyers.com and went directly to the “Last Call” section, as I’m wont to do, where I stumbled upon these glorious beasts.

I love leather on old-school hi-top sneakers.  (See Jen’s Call It Spring! sneakers for more on that.)  More than that, I love unconventional neutrals, like a good, mid-tone grey.  Reserved for drab corporate offices and concrete – but on a shoe?! A hi-top shoe?! I love every bit of it. Not to mention the black is so sleek and clean, but so rough & tough at the same time. Yum.

Plus, since I found them while scouring the Last Call section, they are deliciously discounted.
