I’m Wearing: A Pre-Summer Outfit

It’s no secret that I’m wishing it were summer so bad, I could spit – which, if you knew me in Seattle, may come as a surprise. Prior to experiencing surviving a Chicago winter, I hated warm weather. Much of it, I’m sure, had to do with my previous body image issues, which prevented me from donning anything more than cropped jeans and over-sized tees – maybe a ribbed tank top under a zip-hoodie once in a while… I could do flip flops, though!

Well, that’s all in the past (thank goodness!) and now, I’m wait-wait-waiting for the sun. I’m particularly excited to see a summer where temperatures actually exceed 78 degrees. THAT will be a joy! I’ve been preparing myself, mentally, by listening to my “When It’s Sunny” music, such as Squirrel Nut Zippers, Royksopp (perfect for cruising with the windows down!), Swollen Members, lots and lots of Journey (preparing also for our best friend ever, Joe, to get here in April!), Common, and Beirut. Such a wonderful musical life I’m having lately!

So I dug in the closet and found this fun, lamé, gauzy gold dress that I purchased at an Old Navy clearance event about a year ago. I’ve never worn it (still has the tags on!) because it has one hell of a racer back that prevents me from remaining a lady without wearing a turtleneck under it. Fortunately, I don’t care that much, so I grabbed an Old Navy lace-trim camisole and threw it on underneath – tada! I don’t have to care at all!

Sorry, y’all! No garters to aid in overexposure! Maybe next time.

I also recently purchased these extra long leggings from Torrid (which I love). They were in Clearance for a little over $10, so I figured “Why not?” I’m so glad I bought them – I love how they look wrapped around the ankle in a shoe. Plus, they’re extremely comfortable.

Do you ever get the Kung-Fu urge? (Also, can I get some props for that amazing foot placement? C’mon, that’s straight talent.)

Tank, Old Navy , $5
Dress, Old Navy , $4
Leggings, Torrid, $10.98
Shoes, MIA, Online Shoes , $40
Sass, free with birth, baby.

What’s your “Waiting for Summer” outfit? I know you’ve got one!

xoxo.

  • That outfit is too freaking cute. Also: props on amazing foot placement. Well deserved props, indeed.

    My pre-summer outfit:
my favorite khaki skirt (goes to about 3 inches above knee) + ribbed tank (usually in burgundy or teal) + my gray v-neck sweater with sleeve to the elbow + strappy sandals + white hoodie over it. It makes me feel like it's *almost* summer and I will soon be able to shed the top layers and just wear the tank and the skirt! :)

  • truly inspiring story. nothing like a liberated self-image to breathe life into the world of style and fashion. great outfit - recession-proofed to boot. mad props. question from a climate challenged west coaster; are 'almost summer' and 'spring' the same, or different seasons?

    U inspire.

    • Well, on the west coast - Spring and Summer are definitely different. I'm learning that, in Chicago, Spring lasts for about a week, then summer comes in and blasts the hell out of you with extreme humidity and high temperatures.

So... I'll have to get back to you once I find out for sure! =P

Thanks so much for your sweet comments. <333

  • MMMMM...Summer. Excuse me while I visualize the heat and being on some tropical beach.

Okay, I'm back. I love the cute gauzy tunic dress. I bothers me so much when the racerback is too severe of the arm holes are too low for a normal bra. Not everyone can go sans undergarments, thank you retailers!

  • You look REALLY good! I love the outfit and hair. It's fabulous.

Mmm, I think I'm just looking forward to my summer dresses again. I spent last summer living in dresses.

  • Damn! I wish I had thought to check Torrid for leggings before I placed/finished my order...
