July Challenge: Mani-Pedi

When life throws me signs, I try to pay attention. Not that every pattern is a sign, but sometimes, they’re undeniable.

In the last 6 years, I have had two pedicures and a manicure – both within the last two months. I know, right? This is a potential addiction and, man, those can move pretty quickly if you’re not careful.

Jen and I caught a Happy Hour deal for our manicures and pedicures yesterday, fortunately, so they were discounted… If you consider $28 per person as a bargain. I’m pretty cheap, so… Yeah, that’s a little steep for me.

But manicures and pedicures make my nails SO PRETTY.

How am I supposed to give up something so aesthetically pleasing? I’ve had bare fingernails and toes for far too long, I guess – I’m completely enamored with this new nail polish idea! Behind the times? Maybe. What I do know is that I absolutely can’t afford to develop a mani/pedi habit.

That’s why…

…we’re issuing a challenge!

This is the first (of many) Broke & Beautiful challenges. Over the month of July, I challenge you to learn and perform the perfect manicure and/or pedicure, saving yourself who-knows-how-much money on expensive manicures and pedicures. We’ll be reviewing polishes, products, and dishing out tips on how to give yourself the best set o’ fingers & toes money doesn’t have to buy!

At the end of the month, you’ll have the skills, products, and experience to show off perfect nails whenever you want.

Your hard work ought to be rewarded, don’t you think? That’s why one participant will win a care package full of awesome nail-related paraphernalia! The announcement about the exact contents of the prize will be released soon… Can’t give it all away right now, can we? We’ll select from the list of participating blogs, and that person could totally be you.

Want to participate?

…Please do! Fill in the box below, and link it to either your blog, or a post showing off your prettiest nails! That way, we can all scope out (steal?) each other’s masterful skills. The more nail-related posts you make, the better chance you have of winning! Want to show off your weekly lessons in manicuring (wow, spell check says that’s a word…!)? Go for it! You can submit your post and/or blog to our list, so everyone can check out your gorgeous claws!

We’re super, super excited about this project – I can’t wait to see what we all come up with! Watch this space for all kinds of nail-related deliciousness. (Well, not this actual space…)

What nail trends have you been dying to try?

Lindsay: Probably watching Netflix.

  • oh! I've been manicure obsessed lately! I prolly won't do the challenge but I really want to try a gradient effect and the Konad stamping system (just don't need to buy more nail stuff - ugh).

Can't wait to see what you do next!

  • Oh wow. I am the WORST at giving myself a manicure and/or pedicure. Although I am beyond broke I get a manicure every week (or every other week). I will spend my last $10 on a manicure. Not good, I know. I am one of those girls who spend WAY TOO MUCH on their nails. Although my manicures are only $7 (or $8 if you want OPI polish) and my pedicures are only $15, it does still add up!

  • I always paint my own nails and toes. I think it's such a waste to get them done unless you're in a certain tax bracket. I also change my nail color a lot because I'm a nail polish addict so there's that.

    • Awesome! You should definitely enter the contest. Just post about your manicure/pedicure on your blog (or find an old post) and put it into the link widget in the post. The prize package is getting HUGE!

  • Would love to enter the contest, but with 4 kids, a house to take care of, and working on 2 college degrees at the same time I just don't have time to do my nails :(
My toes were painted like 3 months ago and I never paint my nails because the military doesn't allow it, I do cut and buff them though, when I can spare the 15 minutes on myself :)

  • Thanks so much for having this cute idea. It gave me posts inspiration, and motivation to keep up with my mani/pedi maintenance. Now I just hope it'll last at least through August...
