I first heard the Bassnectar remix of Lights, a song by Ellie Goulding, while riding in the back of a close friend’s car on the way from the Memphis airport to a rural town in Mississippi. The deep, deep base, the barely rolling landscape, my arm out the window and my sunglasses blocking the glare…it was the perfect beginning to an amazing vacation.

I think that vacation is what makes me long for flowing, shapeless maxis every time I listen to Bassnectar. Maxis to lounge in, maxis to bob my head in, maxis to flow and twist as I spin around, pounding my feet to match the beat. I’m not sure if I’d be barefoot or in big black boots – maybe one, then the other.
