My Fall Fashion Wish List

For the last several years, I have been focused on shopping my own closet, using what I have, and maximizing my wardrobe to provide me the largest number of outfits that hold my interest. This is due to both my obsession with efficiency, and also my slim, flat, empty wallet. It’s really, really inexpensive to wear clothes you already have in new ways, but after a while… you just gotta shake it up!

Maybe it’s because my interest in New York Fashion Week has been reignited, but I am having cravings for new articles of clothing that I’ve never really worn before. The combination of fashion week street style and fresh runway looks can lead you down the path of longing – be warned.

A Long Cardigan

These have been around for years, most frequently under the guise of “boyfriend cardigan.” I’ve never had one, though I’ve had plenty of long, knit sweaters… I’ve never had a legitimate cardigan that went past my butt.

Burnt Orange

This is a pretty stereotypical fall color, and my love for fall is pretty blatant. I am Charlie Brown-ing hard and am way too excited for The Great Pumpkin. This is such a warm, spicy color – maybe it just reminds me of food.

Super Skinny Jeans

They don’t have to be leather (though some faux leather or leather look wouldn’t be bad…), but a second-skin type of jean – let’s be real, jegging – is what I plan on living in over the cold months. I love super skinny jeans because they are an excellent layering component as well!

Utilitarian Boots

It’s definitely related to the copious adventuring that I’ve done this summerand related to my love for simplicity! They’re a little different from the types of boots you see

Red Shoes

I’ve wanted red boots for years, but I vaccilate between “needing them” and “thinking they’d be fun to have.” Right now, we’re in a “need” upswing and I can’t stop hunting down photos of red shoes. Anything to stand out against all the brown and grey we’re about to surrounded by!

Maybe all this capsule wardrobe stuff is subconsciously brainwashing me. I’m back to finite, curated wish lists?! I had stopped making wish lists long ago because I felt like I was pressuring myself to spend money on things just because I liked them. Does that make sense? #HyperAnalytical, I know. But now, I’m old. Now, if I have a list, I feel like I will be less likely to spend money on random, of-the-moment wants instead of long-term pieces that I really love and desire… We’ll see if that theory proves right at the end of the season!

I’m always hesitant to publish wish list posts because I know that 4 seconds after I let it go live, I’ll think of 11 other things I want to add. But I’ve been racking my brain to make a succinct list for about a week – if I forgot anything, it might not be meant to be!

    • Yes! I have had those long, "waterfall~" cardigans or whatever they're called, but I love the super-standard, long cardigan like the one on that babe in the picture... something simple that isn't really simple, you know?

Also OMG @ scarves with zipper pockets, you are a genius.

    • Really?? Okay, I'm glad you said something because I've been eying a pair on ThredUp and they're like $12, but I know nothing about the fit or sizing or anything. Are they pretty good quality?

      • I used their size chart and the measurements of my current favorite pair of jeans (Paige, thrifted) for reference and that worked for me. I'm 5'3 and had to exchange the regular for short. They didn't seem to stretch terribly, my problem with GAP jeans, but I only tried them on. They have a ton of different rises and a lot of colors and washes. The jeans were free shipping and returns, I don't know if they still are, I bought them a week ago. I'd recommend, they reviews of previous customers were good, as well.
