It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a subscription box. After a colorful history with these little monthly gift boxes, I was pretty sure that I had said hello and goodbye to my last auto-charge.
I can’t say that I don’t miss it, though. Knowing that there was one day a month when you got a present for no reason – that’s pretty awesome. You could have the crappiest day at work followed by the worst traffic ever, but once you get home, there is a bunch of girly, frou-frou, body-loving presents for you when you. That’s a special thing.
But during what may now be known as “Subscsription Box Fever” (maybe only to me), everyone and their mother had a box of itsy bitsy samples for you to try for only $X.XX/month. Many of them turned out to be scams, the rest were just boring and terrible – full of products that I wouldn’t grab a sample of if it were the only sample available. And that’s saying a lot considering I’m perpetually broke and taking free things is second nature. They got so mundane and the same brands started showing up in every. single. box. Zzzzz, wake me up when it’s over.
I’ve been blogging for about seven years, and for almost two of those years, I’ve been affiliated with POPSUGAR Select. I chose to stick with them as opposed to other organizations because they provide the world with ShopStyle, a shopping tool I use almost every day, as well as PopSugar, FabSugar, FitSugar, BellaSugar… You get where I’m going. They know blogs and they know good content!
They also know good subscription boxes. Recently, they asked me if I’d like to review one and I couldn’t have said yes more rapidly. It is the week of dream reviews, after all. So they sent one over, and I was completely shocked.
I admit, I knew very little about POPSUGAR Must Have Box… I especially didn’t realize it was full of full sized products. Big, wrapped-up, full-sized products. This was such a different experience than the sample boxes I’d experienced in the past.
These were all for ME!
After examining each of the products included inside… I kind of just stared at it for a while.
Here’s what was in my POPSUGAR Must Have Box…
A Kendra Scott Necklace
This couldn’t have been more surprising. A beautiful necklace from designer Kendra Scott, in kind of an indiscernible color. Obviously the chain is very delicate and gold, but the stone is just dark and neutral. It changes color based on what it’s next to, and this bag (which doubles as a storage bag and polishing cloth) makes it look almost black.
ThinkThin High Protein Brownie Bar
This was also pretty unexpected. A brownie bar with no refined sugar and high protein? This is right up my alley. It tasted only mildly like cardboard and got me through my errands yesterday!
Lollia At Last Shower Gel
This was the most obviously full-sized of the bunch. A real, expensive-looking, dreamy-smelling shower gel! This is exactly the kind of thing I would never buy for myself, but love receiving and using.
Mason Jar Cookie Company Celebration Cookies
What? Cookie mix? Okay! Not having control over what goes in them makes me feel a little bit neurotic, but having a cookie mix ready to go at all times? With chocolate and sprinkles? That’s okay with me.
Paddywax Ocean Salt Soy Candle
Speaking of mason jars… This candle is adorable! It smells absolutely amazing, like a floral sea, and looks very cute pretty much anywhere. Soy candles burn longer, too, so this is a smart inclusion! Especially for someone who rarely justifies the purchasing of fancy candles.
Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip Gloss
This gloss is made with actual fruit. Very real, food grade fruit! It’s the smoothie of lip glosses and it is going to hydrate the crap out of your lips. I’m not a lip gloss girl because I can’t stand the sticky (this stuff is admittedly sticky) but if you are a gloss fiend, this color is a great addition – plus it’s great for you and the earth!
Goodbyn Dipper Snack Set
This was the last big surprise in this box: a snack carrier!? This is also right up most broke girls’ alleys. Bring your own food! To wherever! I am about to throw some hummus and carrots in this thing and go to a show! Where I will sit outside the show and eat snacks so I don’t have to buy food inside. No shame in my hustle. This is an awesome tool!
Did you see all of the full sized products?! Nope, still not over it. This is a total win for me, and the full sized products make me feel utterly pampered.
The price of the Must Have Box is higher than the other subscription boxes I’ve had at $39.95. So you definitely pay for what you get… but you also get what you pay for! I think the element of surprise is a fun gift to buy for yourself, or for a friend… or for yourself and a friend on a big paycheck day!

For me the price is too high, but it refreshing to see a company offering a monthly subscription that delivers full sized products and ones you actually want, too! What's really turned me off from subscribing to any box is the fact that most of them deliver things no one would ever need/want.
