butter LONDON has been a favorite of mine for years when it comes to everything nails. Their matte topcoat is a mainstay in my kit and their colors are some of the most beautiful in my uncontrollable collection. Over the years, they’ve been expanding into other beauty departments, including (but not limited to) lip color.
I’ve tried Butter LONDON’s Lippy Liquid Lipsticks before, which came in an opaque, glossy formula, but their recent show pieces are the new butter LONDON Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons ($20 each).
butter LONDON Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon Review
Much like their beloved nail lacquers, these lip colors are perfectly composed. For only having eight colors in the entire line, it is well-rounded and has an array of fun and realistic lip colors that would flatter a wide range of skin tones.
butter LONDON asserts that their lip crayons have a “long-lasting, all-in-one formula” that “delivers lacquer-like shine and high-fashion colour.” While I definitely experienced some lacquer-esque applications, some were just lightly glossy, which was just fine.
“All-in-one formula” may refer to to Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon’s moisture adding properties (provided by Mango Seed Oil & Marula Oil), antioxidants, and tone-evening powers… or it could refer to the fact that this is your liner, lipstick, and gloss – all in one.
From top to bottom, the butter LONDON Bloody Brilliant lip colors are:
Teatime With The Queen
Trout Pout
Disco Biscuit
Primrose Hill Picnic
Ladybird
Toff
Teddy Boy
Ruby Murray
With the exception of something orange and something dark brown (though Toff is close), this collection has pretty much every color a lipstick fan could want, from nude to bright red to break-my-camera pink.

Opaque, light nude creme.
Both of these photos were taken in natural light.
Opaque, light coral creme.
Note: I wanted this to be as vivid and coral as the package, but it definitely is a bit on the pink side. Still bold, still beautiful, but not entirely package-accurate.
Opaque, bubblegum pink creme.
Opaque, tropical pink creme.
Opaque, tomato red creme.
The photo on the left was taken in natural light, the photo on the right used flash.
Opaque, red grape creme.
Opaque, rosy creme.
Opaque, deep berry creme.
The lip colors come in a very convenient and very sleek black jumbo stick. The formula is really, really creamy – like potentially-get-it-everywhere creamy – but stays put once applied. Application is pretty thorough, though some colors like Toff and Tea With The Queen were patchier than others on my lips (which I’d exfoliated 10 minutes before applying the first color). There was absolutely no stickiness whatsoever, and the lip color left a very faint, pleasant stain when removed.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be a proper “crayon” without a built in sharpener.
I’ve been delighting in these ever since I received them from butter LONDON’s marketing team. (Thank you, you perfect cosmetic-delivering angels.) Based on color, my favorites were Toff, Ladybird and Trout Pout. My least favorites were Teddy Boy, Disco Biscuit, and Ruby Murray. I really like Primrose Hill Picnic, but I’m not sure I would wear it enough because my life is generally boring.
