Miley Cyrus has partnered up with Converse to create a 43 piece collection of sneakers and casual clothing that brings a… moderately immodest amount of “extra” to your grocery store outfit. Swap out your normal Chuck Taylors for a piece from the Miley Cyrus collection it will result in one of three things: 1) 3″ platforms, 2) glitter soles, 3) bandana print.

The copious sparkles and baby pink motif might come off a little saccharin, and since we’re dealing with Miley Cyrus, you can assume that’s kind of the point. If there’s one thing you should have learned about Miley by now, it’s that she typically knows exactly what she’s doing, and exactly how it will be perceived. She’s been making moves since she was a pre-teen, and by now, she knows how to make an impact.

We are fighting so many big problems in the world,Miley told Wonderland Magazine. “To have simple things that make us happy is important too.

Glitter, anyone?

Basically, Miley is so famous and so influential that she has the power to curate whatever project she’s working on to fit her ethics. Not to mention the fact that pretty much every brand would jump at the chance to work with her, so she gets to cherry-pick her favorites from an endless list. Her mission, in case you’ve been living under a rock, and the missions of her Happy Hippie Foundation, can be summed up with the word inclusion.

She goes on to explain why her partnership with Converse was a no brainer: “Converse has no boundaries. Converse style represents everyone from punk rockers to the 1st lady! It’s outspoken. I’ve always identified with Converse because the brand appeals and represents so many different cultures and walks of life. And, they’re affordable. There’s no class differentiation for Converse. Michelle Obama can wear them, and so can a teenage boy still looking to find his way. They’re a shoe for the people.”

“I don’t want anyone to feel left out. No age, no gender, no sex – everyone is included in this collection. ” – Miley Cyrus

The Converse x Miley Collection has no age, no gender, no sexual preference, no socio-economic requirements – just like Converse. When the first pair of All Stars first came onto the shoe scene in 1917, they were worn by basketball players… for the next half a century. You might have heard of Chuck Taylor? He’s the basketball player from the 1970s who made the All Stars into the iconic shoe we know and love, finally endorsing them with his name in 1923.

Fast forward to the 1980s, and we start seeing Chuck Taylor All Stars on the feet of… crusty street punks?! Then the ’90s gave the Converse torch to “loadies” and grunge rock superstars, and as we rounded into the 2000s, the Converse-wearing community truly became amorphous. Everyone from every background, every race, every gender, every tax bracket wears Converse. It’s been over 100 years since their inception and they are one of the few things in this world that actually unite everyone.

I love the message and the vibe behind this line. The bandana print is an obvious homage to Miley’s roots while the glitter and striking platforms celebrate her unpredictable and fearless career. The message of inclusion is such an important one, too, but I can’t help noticing the S-XL size range, and how exclusive it is.

While that size range might cover approximately sizes 2-14, there are many, many people who can’t wear this collection. I’m not sure if that was an obstacle or an oversight, but when companies like Her Universe are putting out collections that contain affordable athleisure in sixes XS-3XL, or Bombsheller with their impressive XXS-6XL size range, it’s getting harder and harder to excuse big brands from limited size ranges – especially when they’ve slapped the word “inclusive” all over it.

What’s in the Converse x Miley Cyrus Collection?

The collection contains 43 pieces of fashion goodies including clothing, shoes, and accessories. Obviously, Converse is known for their shoes, but you might be surprised to learn that the bulk of the collection is actually clothing.

There are a total of eight Converse All Star sneakers in the mix, and the athleisure and loungewear pieces that make up the rest of the collection are perfectly coordinated to go with them if you’re into matchy-matchy outfits. It’s also worth noting that this collection, like Miley, is vegan.

Obviously, this has Miley’s signature all over it – literally and figuratively. In interviews, she talks about how her designs for Converse are representative not only of her style, but of her day-to-day life. You can run to the store to buy cat food in (most of) these shoes because they’re comfortable, versatile, and cute, but you could also wear them to perform on stage to tens of thousands of people because they’re vibrant, sparkling, and sometimes 3″ off of the ground!

Each shoe design includes the iconic Converse All Star badge (of honor), and also include Miley’s logo: a cute mouse shaped smiley face with her initials as the eyes. As far as celebrity signatures go, this is a pretty wearable one which is good because it’s emblazoned on several pieces of the clothing in the collection.

Where to Buy the Converse x Miley Cyrus Collection

This collection was only released on Wednesday of this week (May 2, 2018), so it hasn’t popped up in too many places. That being said, it’s at three major retailers which means the inventory stock should be ample. Nothing is sold out, as of the date of this post, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a sure thing!

The only place you can get the platform Chuck Taylors and the full line of clothing is through the Converse online store. Nordstrom and Tilly’s both have a really good selection of items, definitely better than the rest, but it’s still missing some of the hallmark products of the collection, in my opinion. Tilly’s seems to be less expensive than Nordstrom, however, so keep that in mind while you’re shopping.

The collection is available online now, and will eventually make its way to stores.

What do you think of the Converse x Miley Cyrus collab? Would you wear any of the shoes or outfits?

Probably watching Netflix.
