Monday Wedgie: Back to Basics

I’ve been thinking a lot about pants lately. A specific type, actually: tuxedo pants. I really, really like them. I feel like they’re really flattering, and I like that they can be translated into both casual and more swanky outfits.

The problem is: shoes. Wearing shoes that look good with jeans is pretty much all you need to do to make denim-based and cropped iterations look awesome, but when you have a slightly bagger, more slacks-ian interpretation, shit gets weird.

You don’t want the top of your shoes to be a focal point because they’ll be covered up by your hem. You don’t want a chunky shoe because then you just look like you have legs made of 2x4s (meaning: I feel that showing the world that – yes, you do have ankles and yes, they are smaller than your thighs – will give a better shape to… everything). You don’t want to have Short Leg Syndrome by wearing weird flats… Ok, I don’t want that, but you can have that if you want it.

When in doubt, go back to basics. Break it down, 5th grade story problem style:

  • I NEED ANKLES. How about an ankle strap?
  • I NEED HEIGHT. Perhaps it’s really obvious to everyone that you need heels, Lindsay.
  • I NEED TO NOT FALL DOWN A LOT. Wedge, obviously. But a thin one, so as to preserve ankle-existence.
  • THESE PANTS ARE BAGGY, I NEED TO SHOW A LITTLE SKIN TO FEEL LIKE A SUPREME SAUCEPOT. Sandals, it is. Hussy.

So a wedge sandal with an ankle strap. See? That was easy.

Perfection! A nice, tapered, wedge heel and a minimalist heel and toe strap. Black is good for everything, and the price is completely reasonable, given the number of outfits these would be worn with. It’d be worth looking for a coupon code, for sure, but overall I think these would be (and maybe will be) a smart buy.

And a good wedgie.
