Well, hi. I have been straight up missing for two weeks and you probably didn’t notice because: internet, but hi. I’m back from a whirlwind 14-ish days of complete and utter chaos, fun, education, light motion sickness, and general shenanigans.

I haven’t had a proper vacation in ages… In fact, I don’t think I’ve gone a week without posting for at least 3 years. One might think that turning 30 made me give even fewer fucks than I gave in my 20s. Sweet.

Remember when drive-in movies were a thing? Well, there’s one that survives on an island off the coast of Washington state, and it’s called Blue Fox Drive-In. If you’re within 100 miles, you really should make the trip. There are tons of free campgrounds in the US that would be well-worth your time if it means you get an authentic drive-in experience. It’s an unbelievably beautiful drive and while you play in the arcade and drive go-karts as you wait for your movie to start, you get sunsets like this:

We caught a double feature and paid $6.50 per person – less than we would at any actual theater to see only one movie in the dark.

Does your movie theater deliver pizza to you, mid-movie? Seriously, you haven’t lived until you’ve caught a triple feature with your closest friends while huddling in blankets and eating Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches. My dad would tell you that the best night to go is 50¢ hot dog night, and I’m inclined to agree.

Spending tons of time on the water during a weird Washington summer meant extremely heavy fog and occasional bouts of disorientation and hopelessness. #WeHaveEveryTypeOfTopographyProblems

One of the best parts of my time away was discovering this lake with Zoë (she’s my lipstick queen & vacationed with me!). She nearly bought a house down the street after two straight days visiting this lake, which kind of makes you forget about everything bad in the world.

I ate my weight in donuts, smoked pork butt, spot prawns (which we caught ourselves!), Paseo, and Dick’s and just when I was ready to stop moving and get back to my moderately sedentary, routine life… a gigantic project that I have been waiting on for five weeks kickstarted into action and there is no such thing as downtime until it’s done. More on that soon, because it’s going to be the opus of my Broke Life!

Anyway, I am back from my 200-mile-radius staycation and ready to party! Happy summer, brokies.

* PS(A): Please wear sunscreen!

Probably watching Netflix.
