I learned something important a few weeks ago while I was watching a Netflix documentary about jellyfish as I was going to sleep:
Don’t watch a documentary about jellyfish while you’re trying to fall asleep.
Have you heard of a Box Jellyfish? The tentacles of which are sometimes nine feet long and can kill you? Of all the species of jellyfish, they are the closest to “having a brain.” They hunt their food instead of drift, peacefully and nicely, like other jellyfish that don’t actively want to kill you, and Box Jellyfish may even have the ability to retain memories and learn things. Learn things. Oh, and on their tentacles? Harpoon-shaped venom distribution hooks, capable of delivering a poison that will make your cells porous, which allows potassium to leak out of them and cause cardiovascular collapse within two to five minutes.
Now we can have nightmares together.
Thankfully, Box Jellyfish only live near my good friends in Japan, Australia and elsewhere the south-eastern Pacific, so I am feeling cozy on the northern side of the world.
Anyway, that enormous educational assault was just bringing me around to talk about how beautiful I find jellyfish to be, and how much this top from Target reminds me of one:
Mossimo Shine Hi-Low Cap Sleeve Shirt, $11.48
You see what I mean, right? I like all of the golden, piped edges with the gold sheer – it looks invertebrate-y! It also comes in light pink jellyfish.
