The Kate Young x Target collection has been out for a while now, and I’ll be honest – I waited to talk about it because I wasn’t a superfan.
I don’t really like to write about clothes just to say I did it, so I planned on skipping over the collection. Why? Well, let me first say that there’s nothing wrong with the Kate Young collection, it’s just so… shiny. Not literally, it’s got great textures and cool ideas, but it’s so polished and “classic” that it almost felt obvious.
This feels weird to say, considering there are sheer, mesh, polka-dot bodysuits involved, but the cuts aren’t terribly exciting and the fabrics seem to be old favorites like navy blue and cream, polka dots, black blazers and leopard print… Lots of bold, primary colors and classic, tailored shapes. It’s all nice, but it’s all stuff I’ve seen before. Maybe I’m just a whiner.
Ultimately, I’ve decided I was probably a bit too harsh on Kate Young & Target because, not only have I never tried a single piece of it on, but who am I to say that classic shapes aren’t important? They’re a basis of my fashion & shopping philosophy. I may have expected something more following the very psychedelic Prabal Gurung x Target collection, but what resulted isn’t “bad” by a long shot.
So, today, I set out to take another hard look with my new perspective of appreciating the versatility and timelessness of a good classic piece. Approaching the collection this way, I came out with several favorites! Foot in mouth, Kate Young. This is a solid collection and definitely worth a look!

Do you have any favorites? Also, would you ever wear a bodysuit? I’m on the fence as to whether or not I could make it through an entire day without wanting to rip it off my body, but I like the idea of one…
