It all started as an (Almost) Daily Deal featuring Revlon ColorBurst Matte Lip Balms.
They were such a good deal that I went in with a friend on an order that would get us five shades and free shipping. She took two, I took three, and I have never been more intimidated slash in love with a beauty product.
Of the three I picked up, by far the most intimidating Colorburst balm was Shameless – a warm, true… purple.
When you hear “colorful lip balm” you might imagine a tint similar to a lip stain or the soft rouge you get from Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment (shameless plug because I absolutely love that stuff and the balmy-sheer stain it leaves behind).
… But I bet this is not what you think when you hear “lip balm,” is it?
I have a penchant for purple lipstick (so do my friends), and I’m used to actual lipsticks but this is the most thick, rich, pigmented, colorful balm I’ve ever seen in my life. In fact, I’m not really sure that it qualifies as a balm anymore, given that it completely changes my entire complexion as soon as I put it on.
The Colorburst lip balms are made with shea butter, mango butter, and coconut butter – all of which are extremely conditioning and hydrating for your lips. They even have a little touch of peppermint oil to heighten the lip balm experience of the whole thing.
The color is much warmer than any product photo I’ve seen has displayed. And it’s definitely deliciously matte. It’s still a deep purple, but it has more of a toasty warm undertone beneath all that stormy darkness. But it’s not pink. It’s definitely purple. I guess it’s kind of hard to explain. Also, this is all dependent on your lighting, because once the lights are low, this lipstick is neither cool nor warm, it’s just dark, sexy, and vampy.
My only qualm: it doesn’t go on smoothly. If you look closely, you’ll see several different hues of purple, as the color goes on in layers. It shouldn’t surprise me, honestly. If you think about the act of layering lip balm, that stuff gets chunky and thick quickly, so adding pigment as dark and deep as this is going to result in varying layers of purple lip balm.
This also means that it will settle into any lines or cracks in your lips and become a little bit darker. I may experiment with putting clear lip balm on first, and then applying the colorful lip balm over the top as I’ve heard basic lip balm is a good base for bold lip colors.
It won’t stop me from wearing it either way. The issue is finding the right place and time, as this is definitely a head-turner!
As far as the other colors, I wore Colorburst Matte Lip Balm in Mischievous in the post with the Tahitian pearl necklace, and I also have Striking, which I wore in the post about how to get a free gold necklace from Rosewood Boutique.
