Eyeshadows and outer space go really well together. Not only are there countless objects and celestial beings to name eyeshadow shades after, but the sparkle and shine of space lends itself really, really well to themed eyeshadow palettes. Who wouldn’t want their eyes to twinkle like the stars1.
1. BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Palette

I know, you guys are probably sick of seeing this photo and hearing me talk about this ultra-affordable palette, and I promise it’s not just to hock our review of the BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic palette, it’s because it’s legitimately impressive! It’s not just me, either, this palette was an overall success for BH Cosmetics, and launched them into a new series of hyper-affordable, popular palettes.
Galaxy Chic was my first introduction to any space-related makeup, and… well, here we are going through over 30 galaxy-laden beauty products, so you can see how that turned out. These 18 shimmery shadows are actually baked eyeshadows, which means the “pressed” shadows are recessed into the palette and have a domed shape. They perform incredibly well both dry and wet, and the recession of the eyeshadow pans help keep things tidy when using a wet brush.
Many of the shadows have a mix of two or more shades in a marbled pattern. Not only is it beautiful, but it makes from some really interesting colors! But don’t blow your load over this palette because…

Galaxy Chic was only BH Cosmetics first foray into space-themed eyeshadow palettes. After the hype and success surrounding Galaxy Chic, BH was smart to get another 18-pan eyeshadow palette in the oven. (Get it? They’re baked eyeshadows? In the oven? Guys…?) Some people consider this palette to be a “muted version of the Galaxy Chic palette,” which I’m not sure I agree with because, well, how do you mute an exclusively shimmery space palette?
First of all, the marbled and swirled shadows are gone and have been replaced with a gorgeous selection of solid, shimmery shades. This color selection is definitely more nebulous in the sense that its colors are deeper, more jewel-toned, and remind me of the smokey, illuminated gases that morph around the universe.
3. BH Cosmetics Solar Flare Palette

The last space baby to come out of the California-based brand was the Solar Flare palette. Right around the time that every high-end beauty brand was releasing palettes full of red and taupe shadows, most of which used a fire-related theme, BH Cosmetics pumped out the Solar Flare palette which is full of warm, shimmery shadows that are rich in red, purple and yellow.
Solar Flare is predictably more focused on the sun, heat, and the its qualities. If you’re an every-day-natural-smokey-eye person, I highly suggest throwing $13 at this palette. As these shadows also have a wet/dry formula like the other BH Cosmetics baked eyeshadow palette, you can use these to add some mega-watts to your eye looks.
4. BH Cosmetics Aurora Lights Eyeshadow Palette

The fourth space-themed BH palette came out in May 2018 and contains some of the most glittery, shimmering shadows yet. This palette, like the others, contains a beautiful array of colors with a celestial, shining finish. But unlike the other palettes, the Aurora Lights is reminiscent of beautiful inter-galactic nebulas, with pinks and greens being a major theme throughout the colors.
Fun fact: the pink-y red colors in nebulae is actually hydrogen, while other elements make up the green colors. So you know when you’re seeing a pink nebula that it’s full of hydrogen! This palette, on the other hand, is not.
5. NYX Cosmic Metals Eyeshadow Palette

This little six-pan palette has been on my wish list for an embarrassingly long time considering it came out in spring of 2017. The NYX Cosmic Metals series is mentioned several times in this list, and it does an excellent job of harnessing the power of the universe with its spectacularly foiled metallic finish. Here are some swatches & a good review of the palette
These are definitely glittery shadows, so if you only want to shine like a galaxy but maybe don’t want to sparkle like a galaxy, keep that in mind.
6. Makeup Revolution Pro Regeneration Palette in Celestial
Makeup Revolution, $12
Can you even?! This palette is a brand new release and I cannot stop staring at it. A mix of matte and shimmer shadows comprise this obviously space-inspired eyeshadow palette. The marbled pans are the shimmer shadows while the solid shadows offer awesome complimentary mattes. You could create a complete eye look with this! Also I find the idea of calling an eyeshadow color “Observe” to be hilarious.
Fair warning: there is a chance that this palette is only a UK release so far, since it’s so new. We’re going with it anyway because even with international shipping to the USA from the London-based Makeup Revolution website, it’s still cheaper than a mid- to high-end palette at only $20.95.
7. essence Be Kissed by the Moon Eye & Face Palette

Every broke babe on the planet has used eyeshadow as highlight and vice versa. Why wouldn’t you?! Shimmery beautiful-ness is good for all over your face, why sequester each facial region to its own palette? essence (lower-case “e” on purpose, you guys, not my fault) released this little palette in February, and if you ask them, the four smaller pans on the left are eyeshadows and the two larger pans are highlights. If you ask me… everything goes on your face, put it where you want.
This is a great alternative to the ABH Aurora or Moonchild Glow Kit, though, if that highlight palette has been haunting you since it was released. Ulta seems to be just about the only place you can find this little palette, and it’s worth hunting down at only $6!
8. Colourpop Supernova Liquid Eyeshadows

A review of these little powerhouses is coming soon, but in the meantime, pick one up. They’re only $7 each, and considering the glittery, sparkly payoff, they’re totally worth it. Would I call these a dupe for Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows? Maybe! The wear time is about the same without a super-sticky base, and the intense glitter finish is impossible to ignore.
After the first batch of Supernova Liquid Eyeshadows came out, the response must have been immense, because Colourpop came right back with another set – this time, with duochrome shades. So now, you can get beautiful, twinkling, mostly solid-colored eyes or alien-looking, multi-chromatic eyes!
9. L’Oreal Infallible Galaxy Lumiere Holographic Eyeshadow

Before you light your torches and sharpen your pitchforks, let’s just take a step back and pretend that “holographic” wasn’t in the name of this product. You already know just by looking at it that it isn’t “holographic,” so it’s best we ignore that L’Oreal even went there, okay? Okay. They also say that the formula is loaded with “twilight and moon dust,” so I’m not sure they understand how words work, in general.
Let’s be real: I included these because I was being thorough. $12 for a single pan of eyeshadow is ridiculous, and while the colors look really beautiful and definitely astronomical, I can’t actually suggest that you buy these. This is not a good value, y’all. But you do get a free, actually holographic bag when you spend $15 on L’Oreal at Ulta, so if you really can’t resist, at least get a free makeup bag out of it!
10. essence Metal Shock Eyeshadow

If the Colourpop Supernova Liquid Eyeshadows still feel too expensive at $7, here is your next best alternative. At under $5 each, you get a liquid eyeshadow that’s packed with pigment and shimmer, and whether you sheer them out or pack them on, they look really, really beautiful. Reviews I’ve read seem to indicate that this stuff is budge-proof once it dries down, and if that’s true, that would definitely elevate it above Colourpop and Stila as far as performance goes.
There are a couple of shades in this series that, in my opinion, elevate this to a “maybe I’ll pick on up” to a “BRB GOING TO BUY $10 IN LIQUID EYESHADOW.” Galaxy Rocks (third from left) and 1 Second to Mars (far right) are the two that I would say are must-haves in your galaxy eyeshadow collection.
Space-Inspired Highlighters
Remember how I said that eyeshadows were the second-coolest use of the outer space theme in makeup? That’s because highlighters and illuminators are the first. Harnessing the power of millions of galaxies to add super-boosters to your highlight is an excellent use of intergalactic beauty themes. It’s not hard to connect the dots here, so let’s get right into the best intergalactic highlighters!

PITCHFORKS DOWN, I SAY! Once again, there is not going to be anything “holographic” about this palette, but it’s definitely worth a look! Plus, it’s Drew Barrymore’s brand so we won’t be as mean to her as we were to L’Oreal because of Never Been Kissed and The Wedding Singer.
While many other space-inspired highlight palettes go the alien route, featuring greens and blues and purples, Flower Beauty kept things realistic by including two large pans of very wearable, luminous highlight shades and two smaller pans of ethereal highlights with pink and blue reflects.
12. Revlon PhotoReady Galaxy Dream Highlighter

Please don’t leave. Please stay. I swear I’m not the one picking these names, okay? And isn’t it purely nonsensical how many brands use the word “holographic” to mean “shiny?!” Honestly, it’s an epidemic.
This palette isn’t as similar to the ABH Glow Kits as it is to the Kat Von D Alchemist palette because it seems to be made of translucent- or white-based shades that have vibrant, colorful reflects mixed in. From the swatches I’ve seen, there is a golden highlight, a pink reflecting highlight, a blue, and a yellow-gold-green, which is similar to the Wet’n’Wild Midnight Mermaid Highlight. From the reviews I’ve seen… this palette sucks. It’s as chalky and powdery as it looks, and for $15, you can score some way better galactic highlights from other products on this list.
Are you noticing that the big price tags are on big-name brands and the reviews aren’t stellar? There’s something to that, I think.

If you’re in tune with the beauty community on YouTube, you’re probably used to seeing “highlights to blind the Gods” and whatnot. This highlight from essence is not that kind of highlight. The Pure Nude highlighters are soft, sheer, and makes your skin look like it’s glistening in a very natural way. Pure Nude, specifically, has won all kinds of Best in Beauty awards, and I can personally attest to the remarkable formula as I’ve been wearing their OG Pure Nude Highlighter, Be My Highlight, for years.
Spacelighter is a pink-tinted highlight while Cosmolighter, which sold out nearly instantly (and is still sold out at Ulta, FYI), is a gorgeous pale green which has less yellow-gold undertones than the other pale green highlights I’ve seen. That’s exciting, especially at – once again – $4.99 a piece. Does essence ever charge more than $4.99 for their products? They’re quickly rising up the ranks of my favorite drugstore makeup brands.
15. Makeup Revolution Strobe Highlighter

Of all of the highlighters on this list, this might be the one I’m most hopeful and excited for. Makeup Revolution has their spoon in a lot of pots, and when they’re not busy trying to dupe the latest eyeshadow palette (and doing a pretty darn good job…), they’re coming up with original and affordable makeup staples like these out of this world, celestial-themed highlighters.
There isn’t a great photo of all of them together, but the series includes several beautiful, pigmented highlighters, and many of them are space-themed, unconventional shades: Lunar (pale lavender), Supernova (icy white), Northern Lights (white gold with green shift), and Magnitude (white gold). It’s worth your time to do a Google Image Search some swatches because these have huge payoff. The texture alone looks like it would be very pigmented and shimmering, and the swatches definitely confirm that.
Sorry for the crappy link suggestion but a) it’s once again impossible to find a review of these shades and b) every swatch photo links back to Pinterest or something, and I don’t want to post a photo without giving credit.
16. L’Oreal Infallible Infallible Galaxy Stick

The colors, however, look very beautiful, and while I’m generally wary of affordable face products with “balm” in the title, but these seem to be less balmy, and more color-depositing than you’d think. Reviews have said that they last 4-5 hours on oily skin, so if you aren’t oily, or have a G.O.A.T. face primer routine, these might actually be worth your time.
These may also be founder under the L’Oreal Paris Galaxy Lumiere heading with white and, um, holographic packaging. We’ve already ranted about this series, so let’s cut right to the chase: this balm isn’t holographic, either. What they are is iridescent, buildable, and long-lasting. The three colors – Astro Blue, Galaxy Gold, and Cosmic Pink – have everything you need to amp up the alien vibes of your daily makeup routine. The price seems fair, especially when compared to the other big brand offerings in this list, but I still feel like you’d really have to love one of these colors, and maybe also love highlighting balms, to spend $10 on this. Space-Inspired Eyeliners
Talk about a laser-focus when it comes to the space theme. Can you believe that there is one celestial-inspired eyeliner, much less three? Not everyone is a full-lid-of-eyeshadow type of person, then you will be stoked to know that the stars can be brought to your eyes through these spacey eyeliners.
17. Maybelline Master Precise Ink Metallic Liquid Liner

Thick, metallic eyeliner is one of my favorite looks, especially when the rest of the eyelid is minimally shaded or even bare. Metallic liner also makes it easier to get away with bright colors like the teal, purple, and gold that are included in this Maybelline Master Precise Ink series. It’s not hard to see why they went interstellar with the names and shades in this line – there’s enough shine and sparkle in here to create a new planet!
According to my girl over at Slashed Beauty, who reviewed all seven shades, Solar Gold was the biggest letdown due to its lack of pigmentation, but the upside is that the golden shade is packed full of glitter. So if you’re looking for something to add some sparkle without the pigment, that might be perfect for you. Plus, these are incredibly long-wearing.
18. Rimmel Wonder Ombre Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliners aren’t your thing? No worries, there’s a not-so-standard eyeliner pencil for you. This dual-sided pencil has a deep, dark jewel tone on one end and an iridescent, not holographic, end to layer on top. By themselves, the iridescent end is still visible, and comes off as a super-shiny, pastel metallic, but when you layer it over the deeper tone, the color of the iridescence stands out like a beautiful, sparkling, sore thumb.
19. NYX Cosmic Gel Liners

Among NYX Professional Makeup’s oodles and oodles of eyeliner, three stand out as having the most interplanetary qualities – and not just because they’re called “cosmic,” because I’ve seen more than my fair share of weakly-named, “galaxy-themed” makeup. These 30 made the cut, but there are dozens of sad stories I could tell about black matte eyeshadows and the way they’re marketed. If you think I get up in arms about the use of “holographic,” let’s get a drink and talk about marketing schticks sometime.
Anyway, these are gel liners in cute, glass pots and the three shades are Interstellar (magenta with silver, lilac, blue, and gunmetal shimmer), Infinite Star (midnight blue with light blue and pink shimmer), and Supernatural (royal blue with white, pink, purple, light blue and silver shimmer). The NYX Cosmic line honestly rules. If you’re like me, and didn’t know that a gel eyeliner that had multi-chromatic shimmers in it existed, let’s excitedly buy everything together!
Space-Inspired Lip Gloss & Toppers
Here is where things can really go sideways. When you star taking lip products and elevating them to the outer layers of our atmosphere, things can really get interesting. There are no lipsticks in this section because space-inspired lip glosses are truly in a league of their own.

At less than $5 per tube, and only 5 shades to choose from, these seem like a no-brainer for anyone who is down with the galaxy lips. Obligatory “they’re not holographic” statement goes here.
You can see from both the tube and the photo above that each shade has multi-colored glitter and shimmer, often giving it kind of a duochrome vibe, especially in the cases of Chromatic Peach and Galactic Blue, both of which have a pink shift in addition to glitter. The formula is very up-front with how sheer these glosses are, so using them as a lip topper is a recommended use, but it’s totally up to you!
21. Maybelline Electric Shine Prismatic Gloss

This is one of the most illusive lip glosses I’ve ever seen. Despite the fact that it looks gorgeous, is made by a huge international brand, and is perfectly on-trend right now… it’s super-duper hard to find evidence of anyone using these, releasing these, or buying these. You can grab them Target or Amazon easily, and if you end up doing that, maybe put some swatches online for your fellow beauty lovers who need to make more informed purchases. But mad props to Maybelline for choosing “prismatic” over “holographic” despite the fact that these… are… also… nottechnicallyprismatic. Sorry not sorry, science is real and wasn’t invented to market lip gloss.
If you were going to thirst-buy something, though, I wouldn’t be surprised if you chose these. Just looking at the product on the diamond doe-foot applicator makes me really, really want to put these on my lips!
22. L’Oreal Infallible Galaxy Lumiere Holographic Lip Gloss

Okay, this is the last piece from the L’Oreal Paris Galaxy Lumiere series, and therefore the last time I have to say: this is not holographic. These four shades are definitely iridescent and have beautiful colors to choose from. I highly suggest you click on the photo source link and check out Fashionicide’s review of the whole collection.
The formula on these is, again, very sheer but is designed to be layered overtop other lipsticks or lip colors. I love the use of blue throughout these lip glosses, and I think these could be really flattering and versatile in the hands of someone who is clever and creative with makeup!

23. Flower Beauty Galaxy Glaze Liquid Lip Color

How cute are the constellations on this Flower Beauty packaging? Galaxy Glaze comes in six shades of shimmery, glittery, liquid lipstick. The formula is packed with “3D pigments” that are supposed to give your lips a multi-dimensional shine. The description of this product actually promises truly prismatic effcts, like real rainbows.
The colors are really lovely and, while I’m not sure what the finish is like (because these are distinctly “liquid lipsticks” as opposed to “lip glosses”), I can see that the glitter is super-fine, which makes me feel like it has a better chance of applying evenly. Only a few of these shades have a contrasting shimmer that’s visible in the tube, and dammit if I had some swatches, I’d really love to see what kind of “prismatic” glimmer we’re working with here. Regardless, the price makes the blind plunge a little easier to bear.
24. J.Cat Beauty Flash Metalic Matte Liquid Lipstick

This Ulta online-excusive lipstick comes in 18 different colors, including standard nude shades alongside more galactic options like blue, green, and purple. The formula dries down to a beautiful metallic matte finish. Despite its exclusivity, people seem to buy this stuff in hoards. I think I can see why, though, because unlike other lipsticks (ahem), swatches of Flash Metal are all over the place! It’s almost like the brand wants us to know what it looks like before we buy it!
As far as I can tell, they’re not messing around when they use the word “metallic” in the item name. The shine is real, and if it’s as long-lasting and kissproof as they say it is, that could elevate this $5 lipstick to G.O.A.T. status.
25. NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream

Whenever NYX says “lip cream” I get real excited because their Soft Matte Lip Cream is one of my all-time favorite lipsticks. Unfortunately, this product is absolutely nothing like the SMLC and I have no idea why they went there with this title. After purchasing one of these, myself, I can verify that this liquid lipstick is more like a hybrid lipstick/lip gloss. It’s incredibly metallic and beautiful, but it doesn’t dry down at all and actually looks very wet.
For Halloween or editorial beauty photography, this is an awesome product. However, it is not long-lasting, it’s not tidy, and it’s quite thick, so it may not be sustainable for all uses. That being said, if you’ve been looking for an ultra high-impact, shine-like-the stars metallic lip product, definitely try one of the 18 colors in this line!
26. I Heart Revolution Flare Liquid Lipstick

I Heart Revolution is one of Makeup Revolution’s spinoff brands, and this one seems full of products for the grown-up Lisa Frank girl. This is one of those glitter lipstick formulas where you apply it, and let it dry down to a matte-ish finish, then press your lips together to reveal the beautiful glitter within!
There are five shades to choose from, and you can only pick this product up on the Makeup Revolution website: Cosmo (midnight blue), Nebula (orange nude), Galaxy (mermaid blue), Meteor (mauve purple), Stellar (magenta). Some of the shades seem more metallic than others. Galaxy, for example, dries down on the lips as a super-bright metallic teal, and releases a complimentary glitter upon pressing your lips together. Nebula, though, is much more subtly-toned, and dries to a very natural, flattering nude before displaying a modest amount of glitter. These are totally worth the $5 to try this stellar formula!

There are only three colors to choose from right now, but they’re hella versatile ones: gold, silver, and bronze. This can be used on in your hair (mixed with some hair gel), on your body, or on your face!
28. essence Out of Space Stories Nail Polish

Wait – could it be? Is this some sort of redemption? Is that nail polish actually… holographic?! Why yes it is, and essence has several holographic nail polish shades in their Out of Space Stories collection! The shade in the photo above is called 1000 Light Years Away.
Not all of the polish colors are glittery, some don’t have a single flake in them! There’s ton of multi-dimensional, iridescent, and shimmery colors to choose from. You can see swatches of all seven shades in the collection at the photo source, BeautyGeeks.

This is another high-powered body glitter, but this time it’s in gel-form. I like this, for body glitter, because otherwise you have to figure out how to actually adhere the body glitter to your person. Best of all, you get all three in a set!

Yes, completely color-free products can be space-inspired, too! There’s no reason not to apply the wisdom of the universe to your skincare routines, and the gorgeous packaging and kitschy themes are an added bonus.

Nothing feels more luxurious than a face mask, and you get 3oz per purchase. I’m new to Glossier and associate them with high-level trendy Instagram brands, but that doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed to be a gimmick! At the very least, the packaging is precious.

You know if there’s a Lush bath bomb that’s “intergalactic” and looks like this that your bath is truly going to be out of this world. This little guy is packed with all kinds of aromatherapeutic scents like peppermint, cedar wood, and vetiver. I don’t need to tell you what the water will look like because a) spoilers and b) it’s too good not to see it yourself!
