Brand New Affordable Beauty: wet n wild Zodiac Collection

The beauty community loves a theme. The more fantastic, the better, and what is more fantastic than the zodiac star signs? 12 sparkly signs made out of actual stars, each with their own dedicated mascot that helps you sort your life out during specific times of the year? Fantastic AF. Yesterday, wet n wild released the wet n wild Zodiac Collection which does an excellent job showcasing each sign through a collection of lip glosses, eyeshadow compacts, and two different highlighters.

If you’ve been following wet n wild’s limited edition collections over the past couple of years, you’ll notice that this one is a little bit different. First of all, the collection is actually exclusive to Walmart, though it’s also available on the wet n wild website.

This is cool because the accessibility of Walmart is astronomical, but it sucks because Walmart’s website is maybe the worst shopping website on the planet. It’s like they developed it up until 2009 and then just gave up. In theory, you can dig through the entire wet n wild inventory just to find the individual listing for each color of each product, but good luck finding them. Don’t bother sorting by new products, either. It does nothing.

Here’s what happens when you search on Walmart.com:

Sigh.

But the products themselves actually look great which makes this all extra lame because not only are they hard to find on the Walmart website, but when you do find them, they’re sold out despite being released only yesterday on Tuesday, July 17th.

Luckily, it isn’t even in stores yet. On August 1st, you can find this collection in Walmart stores, so we still have a chance at snagging some before the inevitable web restock.

But I digress. While your ability to buy these products might be a little bit stunted at the moment, your ability to ogle them is stronger than ever. Let’s get into it, shall we?

First and most noticeably, the eyeshadow… “palettes” in this collection are different. Like completely different. Instead of the standard wet n wild quad-, octo-, or deca-shade compacts, they’ve opted for this very condensed, circular compact with no separation between the colors. Hmm, we’ll see how that goes, I guess…?

wet n wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Compacts: $4.68 each

There are four different eyeshadow compacts to choose from, each with a different elemental theme: fire, water, air, or earth. The eyeshadow compact looks almost identical to the very popular Ofra x NikkieTutorials highlighter, but unlike Ofra, the sections of the circle are all different sizes. Similarly to the Ofra highlighter, however, every shade in these compacts appear to be shimmery or metallic.

Speaking of highlighters, there are also four elementally-themed highlighter bars in the collection. These are in the same packaging as the heralded Midnight Mermaid highlighter bar from last year which remains one of my favorite highlighters of all time. The color plus the texture and the finish on the skin are everything you’d want from a mermaid-y highlight, so I have high hopes for these bars.

wet n wild Zodiac Collection Highlighter Bars: $6.93 each

The only difference between the Midnight Mermaid highlighter bar and these elemental Zodiac highlighters are the fact that one of the Zodiac highlighters, Water, has a marbled pigment whereas the others are just a single shade.

wet n wild included one other highlighter in this collection, and it’s a loose powder, similar in style to the loose highlighting powder from the wet n wild Goth-O-Graphic Collection from spring 2018.

wet n wild Zodiac Collection Loose Highlighting Powder: $6.93

The shade of this loose highlighting powder is called Written in the Stars and can be used on face & body. It’s a pink-champagne color and the packaging is as cute as the actual product! While the Goth-O-Graphic loose highlighting powder had little skull holes in the container, this one has tiny, adorable stars!

Oddly enough, wet n wild has incredible highlighters, both pressed and loose, so this product and the highlighter bars might be the top products to look for when scouting out this collection.

Last but not least, there are 12 lip glosses in this collection, each one very obviously attached to one of the zodiac signs.

Now, I haven’t followed astrology for a long time, but as a Taurus, I am wholly offended that they felt we would be interested in a candy-Pepto pink with sparkles. How many Taureans do you know that wear pink on a regular basis? Sure there are some, but I do not connect with wet n wild’s interpretation of my zodiac sign at all.

That being said, as soon as we previewed the collection in our Discord chat, people loved their “assigned” shades. I’m sure there are plenty of Tauruses out there who are stoked about this bubblegum shade but sadly, I am not one of them.

On the wet n wild website, you can buy entire bundles sorted by element. For example, the Fire element contains all of the fire signs, the fire highlighter, and the fire eyeshadow compact. That’s five products for $20.95!

Well, this is all in theory because – since we’re a day late in posting about this collection – everything is freaking sold out. Did they not plan for this? What is going on?

So there you have it, an awesome, affordable, beautiful beauty collection that you can’t have despite it being only 24 hours old. Hopefully on August 1, we can find these products in-store, but if you want them now, you’ll have to either figure out the sorcery of the Walmart website or just hold tight for a restock.
