A new limited edition collection has just risen out of the darkest corner of Wet N Wild HQ. For spring, Wet N Wild is focusing on a segment of the beauty community that is typically only serviced by indie beauty brands and Kat Von D: the spring & summer goths. Their limited edition springtime makeup collection is called Goth-O-Graphic and features holographic skulls and a valiant attempt at holographic makeup.

The Goth-O-Graphic collection is about the same size as their other seasonal releases like Fantasy Makers or the Mermaid Collection. It is comprised of 15 items including four Liquid Catsuit lipsticks, three MegaLiner metallic liquid eyeliners (in some pretty unique shades!), two MegaGlo pressed highlighters, a MegaGlo loose highlighting powder, a MegaGlo holographic (we’ll see) highlighting stick, and three Liquid Catsuit liquid eyeshadows.

As you may have extracted from the images and amount of times “holo” has been mentioned, holographic effects (holography?) are a major focus of this collection. It’s still a little too early for comprehensive swatches, but let’s take an individual look at each new release so we can judge it harshly and with vigor.

What’s Inside the Wet N Wild Goth-O-Graphic Collection

The tagline of this collection is “Spring with a Holographic Edge,” which I kinda-sorta hate. The concept of this collection is awesome, I love it. Springtime colors and pastel shades are a favorite of 99% of my adult goth friends, so the idea is going to be a hit no matter what. “Spring with a holographic edge” is a phrase that just… makes me cringe. Here’s why. (Warning: This is me being a marketing asshole, so feel free to scroll right down to the first product.)

Call me a pessimist, but I’m guessing that one-to-none of these products are going to be genuinely holographic. We’ve seen this over and over – why do brands keep doing this to us? I know holographic everything (sorry, “holo”) is a huge trend right now, but do you really expect us to believe you’re going to create a skin-safe product that actually refracts light directly on your face? And you’re telling me it’s gonna be a powder? Come on, y’all, it’s time to just go back to making great, innovative makeup that isn’t covered up in buzzwords.

For further information on this topic, please see one of SimplyNailogical’s many “holographic makeup” reviews. According to Cristine, the proper terminology for this kind of effect is “iridescent.” Get it right, or pay the price!

But I can’t bitch about a brand’s choices without offering my own alternatives, right? I would have gone for something like “Goth-O-Graphic: the Springtime Spectrum” or “the Magic of Ethereal Spring.” Or maybe “Goth-O-Graphic: Easter with an Edge” because I mean, let’s be real, that’s exactly what what this is… and I’m into it.

Anyway.

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder, $4.99

Shades: White Raven & Purple Ashes

These little pressed highlighters were one of the biggest drugstore beauty hits of 2017, and makeup monsters everywhere were starving for more shades. Wet N Wild created more shades for a palette released late last year, but none of those had the beautiful, bright iridescence that these have. White Raven is a bright white-lavender with a blue-lilac shift on the skin, and Purple Ashes is much more fuchsia with a strong icy pink, glittery twist and is much brighter than White Raven. The best part is that they don’t seem to give of any white cast! (Swatches here!)

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Stick, $6.99

Shade: Hell-O Darkness

Let it be known that the description of this highlighter uses the word “iridescent” twice. This formula is equally waxy and cream which may work really well for certain skin types. From the tiny swatches I’ve seen, this looks to be a cool-toned, silvery-lavender highlight that has a bit of a blue-purple shift. It’s very blendable and can be sheered out for a more subtle effect. The look on the skin is almost identical to the pressed highlight in White Raven. Layer this stick under the pressed powder for an explosive highlight! (Swatches here!)

Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit Metallic Lipstick, $4.99

Shades: Death to Unicorns, Gunmetal Heart, Pastel Grunge, Wicked Pink

While I haven’t tried the metallic version of Liquid Catsuit that was released in the second half of 2017, I can say with confidence that the OG Liquid Catsuit lipstick is one of my favorite liquid lipstick formulas. The fact that they’re also under $5 is a complete bonus when you consider the comfort and wear time of these lipsticks. The shades in the Goth-O-Graphic collection are all pearly and beautiful, with Wicked Pink being the most wearable and Death to Unicorns, a charcoal grey. Gunmetal is a silver color with pink sparks throughout which somehow makes it more wearable to me? These are all a little sheer upon first application, but can be layered to create a perfectly opaque, occasionally duochrome lip look.

Wet N Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Liquid Eyeshadow, $4.99

Shades: Nyctophilia, Goth Tears, Mystic Dreamer, Pure Intension

This is the product from the Goth-O-Graphic collection that I am the most excited about. I’ve never tried Wet N Wild’s liquid eyeshadows, but from what I’ve seen, these are really, really similar to the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows, of which I am constantly looking for dupes. The shades in this collection are shifty, duochromatic, and utterly beautiful. These are amazing on their own, but they can also completely transform any colors you put beneath it. As for their texture on the eyes, they do dry down and are called “MegaLast” for a reason! Goth Tears is identical to White Raven pressed highlight and the highlighting stick, so if you’re obsessed with a lavender-to-blue shade, that’s your bag. Mystic Dreamer is pink, obviously, with a green-gold shift that I haven’t really seen before, but the shift feels similar to the Midnight Mermaid highlight from Wet N Wild’s, um, Midnight Mermaid collection, which I bought. If it’s anything close to that, sign me up! (Swatches here!)

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Loose Highlighting Powder, $6.99

Shade: Moon Tears

If you’re obsessed with highlighter, as I know many of you are, you need to pick this up ASAP. You get a full quarter ounce of loose powder in an adorable container for under $7! The color, Moon Tears, is a very strong, very true, glitter-free gold that Cleopatra would envy. It’s not too warm, it’s not quite cool, but it’s incredibly reflective with just a tiny peach tint that you can kind of discern from the color of the powder, itself. Like the other highlighters, this doesn’t have a white cast- it’s just a beautiful, sheer, reflective highlight that will last you for the rest of your life. Layer this gold sheen over the other highlights will produce a multi-dimensional glow that would be tough to replicate with any other product. True goth nerds will also love the packaging because the holes in the sifter are tiny little skulls! (Swatch here!)

Wet N Wild MegaLiner Metallic Liquid Eyeliner, $3.99

Shades: Black Butterfly, Pink Coffin, Skull Prayer

Sadly, this is the product in the collection that I have the least information about. What I do know is that Wet N Wild has been keeping stylish people rolling in cheap eyeliner for decades, and there’s good reason for it. Not only are they reliable, but they actually stand the test of time when it comes to wear. These metallic eyeliners are likely somewhat sheer, but easily built up for a gorgeous look. What’s more is that they can be layered overtop black gel liners or whatever glorious liner color you come up with for a beautiful, shimmering eyeliner look. Oh, and if you thikn that white eyeliner isn’t a good look, you’ve clearly never seen white eyeliner in the hands of a goth makeup enthusiast. The things that they do with white eyeliner will make you a believer.

Like the other limited edition Wet N Wild releases, you can get the entire collection for only $39.99, which definitely offers a discount compared to buying individually (which would cost over $70!). It includes all 15 pieces of the Goth-O-Graphic collection and comes on a PR-worthy package that will undoubtedly be difficult to get rid of thanks to the cute holographic skull on the top.

Right now, the Goth-O-Graphic collection is only available on WetNWildBeauty.com, but starting on March 1st, you’ll be able to pick up individuals or the full set from your local Walgreens, as well as on the Walgreens website. Past that, I’m not totally clear on which Wet N Wild retailers will carry the collection, but I will update this if I find out any more info!
