Another Wallpaper Designer Collab for H&M’s Pre-Fall 2018 Collection

Recently, H&M has been on an home-interior-meets-human-exterior kick. Inviting wallpaper designers to help create affordable fashion is one deep, relatively untapped well, and H&M is here with their buckets.

Previously, H&M worked with Anna Glover, a wallpaper and textile designer, on a beautiful collection of bold floral prints in classic shapes. Now, they’ve tapped GP & J Baker, another Britain-based wallpaper and textile designer, for a pre-fall 2018 collection.

The Nitty Gritty on the H&M Pre-Fall Collection:

The collection includes tops, bottoms, jewelry, jackets, and shoes. Not all items are collaboration items, but 23 pieces of the 82-piece collection are GB & J Baker items.
Reoccurring styles include coordinate sets, structured jackets, and detailed floral patterns.
GP & J Baker used archival prints in their contributed designs, and H&M filled in the blanks with rich colors, varied textures and classic denim.
Speaking of denim, three jean jackets and two sweaters are under H&M’s Conscious collection, meaning they’re made from recycled or sustainable materials.

The intention of the collection is to combine the bold prints with the geometric patterns to “channel the romantic aesthetic of the season,” whatever that means. H&M was smart to pad the collection with solid color basics and denim separates. These patterns are definitely loud, and in many cases, I feel like you’d want them to do most of the talking in your outfit. So despite H&M’s insistence that these are meant to be worn together, they made it really easy to adapt the GB & J Baker pieces to your own style.

Many of the floral prints have gorgeous, soft-colored backgrounds that make the deeper shades, like navy and burgundy, really pop. Each floral reeks of vintage wallpaper from some luxurious mansion bathroom. Or a medieval queen’s robe. There’s a definite antiquity that accompanies each of GB & J Baker’s prints and it makes paired anything modern with them look like a super-intentional style choice.
